After two years of preparation, on July 9, at Doi Rong International Tourist Area (Do Son district, Hai Phong City), 1,700 cars will gather to set a record of forming a giant map of Vietnam on area of 16 ha.

The event, prepared by Otofun - the largest automobile community in Vietnam, is expected to set new records in terms of having the most puzzles by car and a parade featuring the most cars in the country.

Once the national map is complete, a parachute will pull the national flag from the sky to allow all participants of 1,700 cars to join a national flag salute ceremony. Thereby arouse national pride towards a powerful Vietnam with the image of a map of the mainland and all archipelagos, connecting all Vietnamese people wherever they are.

To prepare for the event, the organizing committee has prepared more than 700,000 blocks of sand that were pumped quickly within a month to turn from a 3.5m deep lake into a flat surface of over 16ha. It is expected that the process of measuring and dividing the cars will last within a week.

However, the most difficult and attractive point is that each participating car must be a member of the Otofun Community and car enthusiast clubs across the country. This is a difference from the current world record, made entirely by the same vehicle of the same manufacturer with the participation of 100 customers.

This will mark the third time that Otofun has implemented a record-breaking program using cars. Previous records were set in 2011 with 135 cars, and again in 2016 with 480 cars and 35 motorbikes.

The current global record is 750 cars as recognised by the Guinness World Records. In 2021, to welcome Year of the Ox, Geely Emgrand Official Clubs (China) had assembled a total of 750 cars to form a huge ox's head, breaking the Guinness World Records title for the largest car mosaic.

According to the record’s guidelines, the mosaic had to be entirely made up of cars with a recognisable pattern.

The distance between that cars could not exceed 20 centimetres and the mosaic needed to cover a minimum area of 3,000 square metres.

A wide range of activities will be held during the function, including a parade of 500 cars, an automobile race Gymkhana Otofun Championship, and a drift performance.

With the attraction of over 3,000 attendees, the event will also make a great contribution to the tourism industry of Do Son - a famous coastal destination in northern Vietnam, contributing to promoting Vietnam's tourism as a safe, attractive destination, especially caravan travel by car.

In addition to the record-setting program, the Hai Phong Otofun Association - the representative of the host unit - will organize a food tour with dozens of specialties of Hai Phong city.

Especially, on this occasion, the management board of Doi Rong International Tourist Area will launch the first interactive light show at sea in Vietnam.

Hai Phong is working hard to protect the environment, develop tourism workforce, boost tourism promotion, and preserve and bring into play cultural values so as to improve the quality and stature of the local tourism in domestic and international visitors’ eyes.

Do Son looks to attract 1.6 million tourist arrivals in 2022.
