Phu Quoc National Park takes up more than half of Phu Quoc Island, where nature lovers can spot rare wildlife and plants such as long-tailed macaques, silver langurs, otters, and hornbills. 1. Star Beach

Star beach is located on the eastern side of Phu Quoc island, it is famous for its white sand, the sand here is powdery and light which is able to compare to the sandy beach in Caribbean. The whitest and cleanest sand can be found in the northern part near the Paradiso Restaurant. In the south of the beach, the sand becomes coarser with a yellowish hue. The water surrounding the beach is calm, warm and turquoise blue.

Bai Sao is particularly beautiful in the early morning when the tide is low. Tourists can walk on the beach while watching the sunrise, listening to the sounds of the waves, and enjoy cool, fresh air.

Sitting under green coconut trees, visitors can have fresh seafood and cool drinks while enjoying the golden sun and cool breeze.

Visitors can also enjoy activities such as water skiing, jet skiing and kayaking.

What to explore:

Besides a beach bar near under a roof made of palm leaves, you can have lunch at an open restaurant. The beach restaurants are pricier than anywhere else. The most popular drink here is sugarcane juice, its price is only 10,000 VND a glass.

Renting a jet ski costs 450,000 VND for 10 minutes, so you can rent one and try water skiing. Ten minutes are enough for you to know how flying on the water is! Near the cape is a port where local fishermen anchored their boats.

2. Dinh Cau Rock (Cau Temple)

Dinh Cau Rock, also known as Cau Temple, is an odd-shaped natural formation in Phu Quoc Island, which local fishermen pray to before embarking on fishing excursions. Located just next to the Duong Dong Fishing Harbor, it features a brightly-colored lighthouse and Buddhist shrine, making it a popular photography spot among travelers.

At the foot of Dinh Cau Rock is the Dinh Cau beach which is not really long but decent enough to have a quiet time for relaxing.

In the past, there is Dinh Cau night market nearby offering a plenty sight of seafood and street foods but in recently the market has gone. The only night market on Phu Quoc island you can find is at Bach Dang street.

3. Suoi Tranh Waterfall

Suoi Tranh Waterfall is a four-metre-tall waterfall within the Ham Ninh Mountains that’s surrounded by lush greenery, natural caves, and rock pools. A 10-minute drive from Duong Dong, this natural attraction is ideal for those looking to escape the bustling town centre.

From the gate of Suoi Tranh Waterfall, step foot slowly on the trail of slices of small stones moss. You will go through the canopy of green trees wind cool.

Sometimes you will go through the paths of the forest with the creeping vines. But through that you are back on the road full of golden sunshine through the trees to the ground, dried leaves and weeds. Under this small road, you will see the journey across the forest to discover Suoi Tranh stream lightly.

The air in the forest is cool, but the closer to the stream. You will feel the cool water, the murmuring, the water pouring near the echo makes the footsteps more exciting. From Tranh stream, you go about 300m to the source for camping, bathing streams, watching the waterfall and relaxing.

Another destination for those who are inquisitive about the locals’ agriculture culture is Sim Grape Garden. Like their counterparts in Italy and France, Sim Grape Garden is vast and colored with the inviting purple of the new and juicy grapes.

Sim wine is made from the local fruit called Sim or Rose Myrtle. Sim tree lives in many parts of the world, such as the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and tropical regions in Asia.

People pick up the ripe sim at the harvest season, wash them, and mix them with granulated sugar in a certain proportion in the anaerobic environment from 9 months to 24 months.

After the product is fully fermented, it has a pink color and has a sweet and sour taste with a concentration of about 10 degrees.

Best time to travel

Weather in Phu Quoc remains warm throughout the year, however, there are two main seasons in Phu Quoc — wet season and dry season.

Dry season lasts from November until May. This is the nicest time to visit Phu Quoc Island and enjoy sunny beaches all day. April and May tend to be the hottest months and sometimes temperatures can even go up to 40 °C (104 °F). Therefore, if you want to venture on Phu Quoc Island during the dry season, but avoid the hottest weather, the best time to travel is from November until March. Do note that this is also the peak season and many tourists will overcrowd the island. If you want to avoid the crowd and don’t mind a little bit of heat, traveling in April might be your best option.

Taste all the food in Phu Quoc night market
