IMO is a contest held specifically for high school students, with each country able to send up to six participants. Candidates are chosen at the national level first to represent a country. The expert students are chosen based on their performance at the national level. They will compete with students from different countries, facing challenges in terms of intellectuality and reasoning power.

The Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) conducts the IMO with the sole aim to discover raw talents in students using an advanced set of questions in this national-level competition.

This contest is a platform where a student can showcase his/her skills in solving mathematical problems.

Over 100 countries from 5 continents participate in this international-level competition. This year is the 63rd International Mathematics Olympiad. The competition was first held in Romania in 1959 and has since been held every year except in 1980. IMO 2020 and 2021 were held online due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
