Ample Opportunities for Cooperation between Vietnam, Russia and CIS Countries
The Ambassadors of the Russian Federation, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan in Vietnam shared the same positive opinions about relations and cooperation with Vietnam at a press conference held on May 2 in Hanoi.
The event was held on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany (May 9, 1945 - May 9, 2024), the 49th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975-2024), and the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - 2024).
Historical May of the people of Vietnam, Russia and the CIS countries
Speaking at the press conference, Russian Ambassador G.S. Bezdetko said that in May the people of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Vietnam are celebrating important milestones in the country's history. For most of the CIS countries, it is the day of victory of the Great Patriotic War. For Vietnam, it is Dien Bien Phu Victory and the Day of Liberation of the South and National Reunification.

Ambassador Bezdetko recalled the process of the Soviet people's struggle for national liberation and escape from fascism. The diplomat emphasized that contributing to the great victory of the Soviet people could not help but mention the participation of Vietnamese soldiers.
"In Russia, people not only remember the soldiers of the Soviet Red Army but also remember the Vietnamese soldiers in the volunteer army defending Moscow," Ambassador Bezdetko said.
Ambassador of Belarus to Vietnam U. Baravikou, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Vietnam K.K.Tumysh and Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Vietnam S. Mehdizade highlighted the leadership role of great President Ho Chi Minh in the national liberation revolution of Vietnamese people.
The ambassadors affirmed that the anniversary of historical events is an opportunity for the people of Vietnam, Russia and the CIS countries to remember and pay tribute to the heroic sacrifices of the ancestors' generation for independence, freedom and national unity.
Significant opportunities for cooperation
Responding at the press conference, the ambassadors of the Russia, Belarus and Azerbaijan stressed that people-to-people diplomacy plays a particularly important role, contributing to promoting economic development, trade and mutual understanding between Vietnam, and Russian Federation and CIS countries.
Ambassador G.S. Bezdetko recalled the history of long-term cooperation and trust between Vietnam and the Russian Federation. In June 2023, the inauguration ceremony of the monument of President Ho Chi Minh took place in St. Petersburg, while V. I. Lenin monument was inaugurated in April 2024 in Nghe An's Vinh city.
Furthermore, this year, the two countries will celebrate the 45th anniversary of the start of construction and the 30th anniversary of putting into operation Hoa Binh hydropower plant - the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia at that time.

Ambassador G.S. Bezdetko said that in the coming time, the Russian Embassy in Vietnam will continue to coordinate with the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association to celebrated major holidays of Vietnam and Russia such as the 75th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations, 50 years of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification of Vietnam, 80 years of Victory Day over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War.
Information about people-to-people exchange activities between Vietnam and Belarus, Ambassador U. Baravikou added that in 2023, the Belarusian Embassy in Vietnam hosted Belarusian Cultural Days in Vietnam and Belarusian Education Days in Vietnam. Also in December 2023, Vietnam and Belarus signed a visa exemption agreement. The Belarusian diplomat hopes that the agreement will contribute to strengthening cooperation in the fields of tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
According to Ambassador U. Baravikou, youth exchange is one of the important directions in bilateral cooperation in the coming time. The two sides will promote delegation exchange activities, as well as information work about Vietnam, Belarus and the traditional solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Belarus to the two countries' youth.
Talking about people-to-people exchange activities between Vietnam and Azerbaijan, Ambassador S. Mehdizade said that in 2023, the Azerbaijan Embassy held a Vietnam Day for the first time in the capital Baku. At the event, Azerbaijani people watched documentary footage of National Leader Heydar Aliyev's visit to Vietnam, and enjoyed Vietnamese melodies and the famous pho.
In the coming time, the Azerbaijani Embassy will coordinate with the Vietnam - Azerbaijan Friendship Association to organize programs to celebrate major holidays of the two countries.
This year, the 65th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's visit to Azerbaijan (July 23, 1959 - July 23, 2024) will take place. The Embassy is coordinating with the Azerbaijan-Vietnam Friendship Association to collect documents about this historical event. Ambassador S. Mehdizade believes that the event will contribute to cultivating friendship and solidarity between the two people.
