Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals in Japan Bolsters Bilateral Relations

The Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals in Japan said it would participate in the process of building and developing the friendship between the two countries through cultural, socio-economic and scientific exchanges.

In Tokyo, the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals in Japan (AVIJ) on April 16 held a congress to summarize the 2019-2021 term, and discuss directions for the 2021-2023 term.

Speaking at the congress, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vu Hong Nam appreciated AVIJ's activities in recent years. The ambassador said that although the Covid-19 pandemic has negatively affected the activities of the Vietnamese community in Japan, AVIJ still operates effectively. The association has successfully organized Vietnam Summit in Japan.

Ambassador Vu Hong Nam hopes that in the new term, with stronger resources and networks, AVIJ will coordinate more effectively with other organizations of the Vietnamese community in Japan. They will organize activities as well as contribute to the development of science-technology of the country.

Le Duc Anh, AVIJ's president presented a report summarizing the association's activities in the 2019-2021 term. He said that one of the most outstanding activities of AVIJ during this term is the successful organization of the Vietnam Summit in Japan in 2019 and 2021.

The first Vietnam Summit in Japan was held in November 2019, attracting the participation of nearly 900 Vietnamese intellectuals inside and outside Japan, along with representatives of ministries and branches of the Vietnamese Government.

At the congress, the delegates discussed the direction of AVIJ's activities in the coming time, and elected a new Executive Board for the term 2021-2023. Ta Viet Phuong, a Vietnamese intellectual working for Amazon in Japan, is the new president.

Speaking after taking office, the new AVIJ President pledged to increase the effectiveness of the association's activities, including rearranging the organizational structure and completing the website.

According to Ta Viet Phuong, in the new term, AVIJ will build a database of Vietnamese scientists and experts in Japan, support activities to strengthen cooperation in science-technology, culture, education between the two countries. The association will also organize activities towards the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan.

Ta Viet Phuong, the new president of AVIJ, said: “In recent years, the Vietnamese community in Japan as well as the intellectual community is growing rapidly. Therefore, the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals in Japan plays an important role in uniting the community to create common strength, thereby contributing to the construction of the country.

As a Vietnamese community in Japan, the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals in Japan will participate in the process of building and developing the relationship between the two countries through cultural, socio-economic, scientific and technical exchanges. The association participates in a series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the two countries."

AVIJ was established in November 2019, aiming to connect Vietnamese individuals and intellectual groups in Japan to create collective strength. It also enhances the position and role of the Vietnamese intellectual community in Japan, thereby contributing to the development of Vietnam as well as the relationship between the two countries.
