Vietnam's embassies held ceremonies to mark the anniversary of Vietnam’s August Revolution and National Day (Sept. 2).

To celebrate the 77th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (Sept. 2), in Moscow city, the Vietnamese Embassy in collaboration with the Vietnamese Association in Russia and the Hanoi-Moscow multi-functional complex on August 20 organized the opening ceremony of the first Vietnamese community table tennis tournament in Russia.

At the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi emphasized the meaning of the first "Independence Cup" Table Tennis Tournament, which was held on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of Vietnam’s August Revolution and National Day.

The ambassador highly appreciated the initiative of the Vietnamese Association in Russia and the Hanoi - Moscow multifunctional complex to organize a new playground for the Vietnamese community in Russia, creating opportunities for people to practice sports, strengthen mutual understanding and active local integration.

Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi also expressed his joy when the first tournament was held, attracting a large number of Vietnamese from many Russian cities to participate. Hopefully the tournament would take place every year and is a bridge connecting more Vietnamese communities away from home.

Representative of the Organizing Committee, Pham Quoc Toan emphasized that the Vietnamese community in Russia loves sports. Besides football, tennis, golf, table tennis also attract many people. The organizers hope to be able to promote the success from the first tournament to hold the annual event on a much larger scale.

Participating in this year's competition, Nguyen Manh Hung shared that sports activities are very necessary for the community, especially after Covid-19. The tournament has connected friends far from home, continuing to prove sport regardless of age, gender and profession. This is also an opportunity to enhance mutual understanding between Vietnamese people who are doing business, living and studying in Russia.

In the first time held, the first Vietnamese community table tennis tournament in Russia "Independence Cup" welcomed the participation of more than 30 athletes from Moscow and other provinces, competing in the tournament. August 20 and 21 in singles and team events. The tournament also attracts large crowds of fans to watch and cheer on the athletes.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Japan hosted a gathering on the same day to mark one of the nation’s most important events, VNA reported.

In his remarks, Ambassador Vu Hong Nam emphazised the significance of the historical events, and reviewed achievements Vietnam has recorded in national construction and development over the past 77 years.

Regarding the relations between Vietnam and Japan, the diplomat said since the establishment of the bilateral diplomatic ties in 1973, the relationship has developed constantly and is now at its best ever.

More than 430,000 Vietnamese are living and working in Japan, forming the second biggest foreign community in Japan, after China, Nam noted, calling on them to contribute more to the national construction and development, as well as the relations between the two countries.

On this occasion, the ambassador presented certificates of merit to six collectives and 32 individuals in recognition of their contributions to the Vietnamese community in Japan.

The Canada – Vietnam Friendship Association (CVFS) held a webinar on August 19 marking the anniversary of August Revolution and National Day.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Canada Pham Cao Phong said Vietnam and Canada are promoting their comprehensive partnership in a practical, effective, stable and sustainable manner, both bilaterally and multilaterally, in the region and the world, for the sake of peace, stability, cooperation and development in Asia-Pacific and the world.

Two-way trade between the two countries hit CAD 6.1 billion (about USD 4.7 billion), up 24.7% annually.
