Australia Supports Vietnam in Digital Transformation in Transportation

Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang recently had a working session with Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski.
At the meeting, Ambassador Andrew Goledzinowski said that the two countries are currently cooperating closely in the fields of aviation, railways, and inland waterways.
In particular, the Australian government's technical assistance program for the transport sector (Aus4Transport) for Vietnam is being implemented on schedule, with quality and efficiency, and is expected to end in 2024.
After this program, the Australian Government is designing the Vietnam-Australia partnership program on economic growth (Aus4Growth), which supports Vietnam in transportation, logistics and infrastructure.
Supporting Vietnam in digitizing seaport services
"Australia can support Vietnam in the field of digital transformation, including digitalization of seaport services. At the same time, the demand for investment in transport infrastructure projects in Vietnam is large, requiring capital from many sources. In addition to capital from the Australian Government, there is also private capital. We are ready to support Vietnam in accessing these capital sources," said Ambassador Andrew Goledzinowski.
Minister Nguyen Van Thang emphasized the support and assistance of the Australian Government for Vietnam's transportation development.
The Aus4Transport program with a budget of AUD30 million (US$19.7 million) supported project development, improved feasibility studies, technical designs, and bidding documents conducted by the Ministry of Transport, while strengthening the management capacity of the transport sector.

Regarding the potential for cooperation, the Minister said that Vietnam is currently focusing its budget on investment in developing transport infrastructure. The road sector aims to complete 3,000km of highways by 2025, and 5,000km by 2030.
In the railway sector, from now to 2030, with the North-South high-speed railway project more than 1,500km long, Vietnam invests in railway lines connecting seaports, airports, border gates, and economic centers such as Hai Phong-Hanoi-Lao Cai, Ho Chi Minh City-Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City-Phnompenh (Cambodia).
Regarding maritime, Vietnam prioritizes synchronous and modern investment in international gateway seaports, focusing on investment to ensure a seamless connection between seaports with the national transport network and regional logistics hub.

Increasing flight frequency between Vietnam and Australia
Regarding aviation, the Minister said that Vietnam currently has 22 airports being operated, of which nine are international airports. In the coming time, Vietnam will prioritize upgrading existing international airports, and invest in small and medium-sized airports in the provinces.
In order to promote transport cooperation between the two countries, the Minister proposed that Australia continue to support and cooperate in the fields of sustainable transport infrastructure development and climate change adaptation, digital transformation, and green energy conversion.
At the same time, the two sides discussed and negotiated to increase the frequency of flights between the two countries. Currently, the frequency is 42 flights/week.
