Board Committee of the World Peace Council Elected for New Term
On the same day, the Board Committee elected Pallab Sengupta, Secretary-General of the All India Peace and Solidarity Organization (AIPSO), as President of the World Peace Council. Athanasios Pafilis was re-elected Secretary-General of WPC; Iraklis Tsavdaridis has re-elected the Secretary of WPC.

Also, the Board Committee elected 5 Vice Presidents representing 5 regions, including Alfred Marder - US Peace Council (Americas); Uong Chu Luu - Vietnam Peace Committee (Asia-Pacific region); Jamshid Ahmadi - Association Defense of Peace, Solidarity & Democracy (Middle East); Elisa Salvador - Angolan League for Friendship & Solidarity Peoples (Africa); Milan Krajca - Czech Peace Movement (Europe).

The 13 members of the Secretariat for a new term, include 2 representatives from Greece: Athanasios Pafilis and Iraklis Tsavdaridis alongside representatives from Cuban Insitute for Friendship of the Peoples (ICAP); Portuguese Council for Peace & Cooperation (CPPC); the Palestinian Committee for Peace & Solidarity; South African Peace and Solidarity Initiative; International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL) Japan; Brazil's Center for Defense of Solidarity and Peace; US Peace Council; Nepal Peace and Solidarity Council; Cyprus Peace Council; Syrian National Peace Council (NUSS), Sudan's Peace and Solidarity Council.

Day 4 of the 22nd Assembly of WPC closed with the success of electing the new Board Committee from 4-year term. Socorro Gomes Coelho (Brazil), who preceded Pallab Sengupta, served as President of WPC for 14 years (2008-2022).

The newly elected President of the World Peace Council Pallab Sengupta was born on January 14, 1950 in India. He was a communist with a special connection with Vietnam.
During his years as the leader of international student and youth organizations, Pallab Sengupta has always shown support and provided help to protect and build the country of the Vietnamese people.
As General Secretary of AIPSO, Pallab Sengupta has organized many AIPSO activities for solidarity, friendship, and better understanding between the two country's people. These activities are closely coordinated within the framework of multilateral people-to-people exchange.
In 2017, he was awarded the Medal of Friendship by the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations in recognition of his contribution to promoting solidarity and friendship between the people of Vietnam and India.
