At a discussion on the draft resolution on June 15th, Secretary of the Hanoi city Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai said that the city’s current tourism infrastructure was weak and lacks many hotels that require investment with very huge resources. The real situation posed the problem of how to invest fully and effectively but not withdraw from the State budget.
After nearly 10 years of implementing the Hanoi tourism development scheme in the 2007-2015 period of the city Party Committee, tourist numbers to the city always maintained growth, making up about one third of the country’s total tourists or achieving an average growth of 10% a year.
In 2015, the capital greeted 3.26 million foreign tourists and provided services to 16.43 million domestic tourists, grossing a turnover of some VND55 trillion.
For the 2016-2020 period, Hanoi will target developing cultural tourism, considering culture as a foundation for the development of other types of tourism such as MICE, craft village tourism, eco-tourism, weekend recreation and entertainment tourist.
All resources from the community, people, businesses inside and outside the country will be mobilized to invest in building a healthy tourism environment and developing tourism on the basis of comprehensive and unified planning.
The city will check scheme, adjust and supplement tourism development scheme in line with the real conditions. In the short term, it will direct the establishing and carrying out of the scheme of six tourism groups: the center of Hanoi; Son Tay - Ba Vi; Huong Son - Quan Son, Soc Mountain - Dong Quan Lake; Van Tri - Co Loa and Ha Dong and surrounding areas.
As planned; the Ba Vi Hai stream will be developed into a national tourism area by 2030, two traditional craft villages in combination with tourism, Bat Trang pottery village and Van Phuc silk village will be invested for preservation and development and Duong Lam ancient village will be developed into an international tourism area.
Nguyen Duc Chung, Chairman of the city People’s Committee, stressed that during the process of building the draft Resolution, the city consulted other countries with relevant tourism development experience and carefully studied limitations and weakness of the city’s tourism. The main tasks and solutions proposed in the Resolution are closely based on the plans, projects and works which have been carried out effectively./.
