Agoda, an online travel platform, stated that the number of Chinese tourists coming to Vietnam has rebounded during the 2024 Lunar New Year.

The number of searches from China for Vietnam tourism has returned to the pre-pandemic level during the Year of Dragon 2024, reaching 95% of the 2020 figure.

Vu Ngoc Lam, Country Director at Agoda Vietnam & Indochina, reported on the massive figures. “According to statistics, Chinese tourists accounted for nearly one-third of the total number of visitors to Vietnam in 2019, becoming a major source of the country’s tourism revenue. Besides, Vietnam has succeeded in attracting tourists from new markets such as India and South Korea thanks to favorable visa policies.”

As stated by the General Statistics Office report, Vietnam has achieved the set target of total tourist arrivals in early 2023 after only 3 quarters. He indicated that the growing interest of Chinese tourists is a positive sign for Vietnam tourism.

China took the lead in searching for Vietnam tourism in 2020. Chinese tourists come to Vietnam due to its rich culture and beautiful natural landscape. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has reduced the number of visitors to Vietnam. After reopening to visitors, the search levels for Vietnam tourism in 2022 and 2023 only reached 3% compared to 2020.

According to VTV, in 2024, Vietnam tourism prospered when Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Nha Trang, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc Pearl Island entered the top 5 choices of Chinese tourists.

"We are delighted to witness a resurgence of Chinese tourists' interest in Vietnam. I believe that the diversity of destinations along with the hospitality of the Vietnamese people will conquer international tourists," Vu Ngoc Lam added.
