A ceremony of the official handing over of two respirators to the Neonatology Department of the Friendship Hospital of Nghe An Province recently took place.
The project implemented by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Hanoi was financed under the Polish development cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland. The donation of two ventilators, worth approximately USD 24,000, is aimed at ensuring greater availability of specialized medical equipment at the Nghe An Friendship General Hospital, which will enable more effective medical assistance and health improvement of the youngest patients in Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Thanh Hoa Provinces.
During the visit to Vinh City, Polish Ambassador Wojciech Gerwel, together with the employees of the facility, representatives of the Vietnamese-Polish Friendship Association and Polish companies present in Vietnam, also held meetings, among others with representatives of the People's Committee of the Province of Nghe An, the University of Vinh and the Friendship Association of Nghe An.
The Nghe An Friendship General Hospital, formerly known as the Vinh Hospital, was founded on September 18, 1918. It was recognized as a first-class hospital in February 2009.
The hospital, built in cooperation with Poland, is one of the monuments of many years of Polish-Vietnamese friendship. Through the embassy in Hanoi, Poland has been supporting the facility for many years, still referred to as the "Viet Nam-Ba Lan" hospital by the local population, meaning "Vietnam-Poland". Among the previous Polish aid projects, it is worth mentioning training courses for Vietnamese doctors in Poland, as well as a respirator worth over USD 30,000 in 2014, over USD-30,000 two prenatal monitors and an incubator in 2015, or two incubators worth approx. USD 24,000 in 2017.

The health sector is one of the traditional areas of Polish-Vietnamese cooperation. It's importance is especially important now, in the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is also a time when the ties of friendship between nations ready to support each other are even more visible. This year, Poland provided Covid-19 vaccines to Vietnam and medical equipment. The continued support for the Nghe An Friendship General Hospital is another example of continued commitment and strong friendship relations between our countries.
The pandemic has taken an unprecedented toll on Vietnam's people and economy. However, since the beginning of the pandemic, many friendship associations under the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) have shown solidarity with international friends in combating Covid-19, by mobilizing funds from individials and businesses in Vietnam to purchase medical supplies as well as raising cash donations.
