Nguyen Thi Huong, of Ninh Binh Province, is appealing for help to pay mounting medical bills for three of her children suffering serious congenital illnesses.

Huong has two daughters, but one has language and intellectual disabilities, and her twin boys -- Tran Quoc Thanh and Tran Quoc Dat -- were born with heart disease.

Her husband works as brick layer on several jobs, and she works as a house helper, vegetable seller and in a restaurant.

Thanh's health is becoming worse

Huong said the restaurant owner let her take home leftover food for her children, and a Christian charity paid for surgery on one of the twins, Dat, but he still needs medicine. Thanh's health is deteriorating and he needs multiple surgeries to survive, but the initial operation will cost VND52m, and even that won't keep him alive.

Sleeping in makeshift attic

"Thanh is getting weaker," she said. "I fear I will lose him every time he faints. I don't know what to do now."

Huong's father-in-law was exposed to Agent Orange during the American War, and the dioxin affected two of her brothers-in-law, though her husband remains healthy.

Deteriorating house

Hoang Xuan Phuc, chairman of Nhu Phuong Commune People's Committee, said, "We are a poor commune and can only help them so much. We hope kind people will help them overcome the difficulties."
