Dien Bien Discusses Solutions to Improve Performance of Foreign NGOs

On November 6, the Working Group of the Committee for Foreign Non-Governmental Organizations Affairs (COMINGO) led by Tran Phu Cuong, Head of the People's Aid Coordinating Committee under the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, worked with the People's Committee of Dien Bien to assess the activities of foreign non-governmental organizations in the province.

According to the report presented at the working session, 14 licensed foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are operating in the province. They are implementing 61 programs and projects in all 10 districts, towns, and cities of Dien Bien, which focus on priority areas such as health, education, agriculture and rural development, and human trafficking prevention, with many practical activities that fit the local needs. In particular, activities to support capacity enhancement for local partners are the basis for the improvement of programs and projects' sustainability, helping to maintain positive models and results even after project completion.

During the discussion, the members of the working group and leaders of the provincial departments and units discussed, difficulties and made recommendations to improve the effectiveness of the implementation of projects funded by foreign NGOs.

Tran Phu Cuong highly appreciated the management and mobilization of aid in Dien Bien. He suggested the province continue to focus on the promotion and utilization of aid resources, with priority given to areas in need of investment. He emphasized the importance of building a list of priority projects and areas in the coming time while encouraging localities to regularly exchange information and increase the organization of professional training sessions for staff in charge of foreign non-governmental affairs.

Standing Vice Chairman of the Dien Bien People's Committee, Pham Duc Toan, expressed his appreciation for the contributions of non-governmental organizations to the province's socio-economic development. He hopes that COMINGO will continue to connect and introduce Dien Bien to more NGOs with capacity and expertise, especially livelihood support projects to help people develop the economy and sustainably reduce poverty.
