Bring people-to-people diplomacy to all walks of life

Recently, the Dong Nai Union of Friendship Organizations, the Department of Foreign Affairs, and member friendship organizations agreed that one of the most essential responsibilities is to bring people-to-people diplomacy activities to all walks of life. Therefore, training conferences and informational sessions on people-to-people foreign affairs are held annually.

Each year, the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Union of Friendship Organizations of Dong Nai province hold conferences to provide people-to-people diplomacy information to managers of departments, branches, and localities, as well as civil servants and officials directly involved in the province's foreign affairs activities. Simultaneously, relevant units collaborate to organize conferences suited to each target group.

According to Nguyen Van Khang, Head of the Provincial Ethnic Committee, reputable members of the area's ethnic minority have recently been promptly provided with information about the province's and the country's foreign affairs. Furthermore, these community cores take part in the process of using international non-governmental resources to build houses for disadvantaged ethnic minorities and provide donations to those in need.

In recent years, the Dong Nai Union of Friendship Organizations has collaborated with the Dong Nai Newspaper and the Dong Nai Radio and Television Station to provide monthly publications. The Dong Nai Union of Friendship Organizations, in particular, proactively publishes the magazine "Bridge of Friendship" every quarter to provide people with information about the province's people-to-people activities.

According to Dang Thanh Thuy, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs, in 2023, Dong Nai collaborated with numerous units to handle eight civil protection cases and 75 cases involving foreign elements. Currently, the number of international visitors visiting Vietnam and Vietnamese citizens traveling overseas, particularly those from Dong Nai province, is growing.

As a result, the Department held a conference on consular service and citizen protection in Dong Nai province. During the program, rapporteurs from the Department of Foreign Affairs of Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City informed provincial leaders on a variety of issues, including the protection of Vietnamese citizens abroad, specific citizen protection processes, and issues with foreign elements.

Actively build a people-to-people diplomacy model

Aside from the aforementioned efforts, the province is also a shining example of being proactive and taking the lead in organizing people-to-people diplomacy models.

In particular, the contest to learn about Dong Nai province's people-to-people diplomacy activities has been implemented since 2023. The event is held regularly between July and October and is open to Vietnamese people aged 15 and up. Those who live, study, or work in the province can take the exam online, which consists of two multiple-choice and essay exams.

The contest's questions are centered on recognizing and understanding the role, functions, tasks, and contributions of people-to-people diplomacy; applying and clearly stating the responsibilities and solutions of agencies, units, and individuals for the work of building and protecting the Fatherland through people-to-people diplomacy activities.

Besides, the Dong Nai Union of Friendship Organizations, the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the Dong Nai Radio and Television Station, and the Dong Nai Newspaper collaborated to host the Friendship Melodies Festival for five years. The festival attracts over 300 members and partners from Dong Nai province's ten-member friendship associations every year.

According to the President of the Dong Nai Union of Friendship Organizations, the festival is an important event that draws members' attention. Not only is it a playground for province members, but the festival also allows the organizing committee to choose outstanding performances for the bigger Southeast Friendship Melodies Festival, which takes place annually.
