The Homeland Spring festival was held on a large scale under the theme “Unity and Connection to Homeland.” The program featured various cultural activities, including fashion shows and performances by singers Hong Ngoc, Phieu Linh, and Jayden Trinh; the Vietnamese Women’s Association in Western Australia; and solo performances on traditional instruments such as the monochord by Nier Nguyen and the zither. Vietnamese students and the local Vietnamese community in Perth also contributed to the event with cultural performances.

Additionally, tea master Ngo Thi Thanh Tam collaborated with the Consulate General to bring artisans and calligraphers to Western Australia. Highlights included a calligraphy booth by artist Luu Thanh Hai, traditional confectionery displays by artisan Thanh Thien featuring colorful tò he figurines, and traditional Vietnamese desserts such as palm cake and pig skin cake, which captivated attendees.

In the warm, joyful atmosphere infused with traditional culture, Consul General of Vietnam in Western Australia and Northern Australia Nguyen Thanh Ha, expressed her hope that the event would promote Vietnamese culture in Australia, foster appreciation for Vietnam’s traditional values, and strengthen community ties. The festival also served as a platform for new opportunities in education, tourism, trade, and investment collaboration.

Representing UWA, co-organizer of the event Hannah Vu emphasized that the festival was not only a celebration but also a cultural event honoring diversity, mutual understanding, and respect.

This year’s Homeland Spring provided Vietnamese youth and international friends in Western Australia with an opportunity to learn more about Vietnam’s traditional customs for the Lunar New Year.

The event held deep significance for the Vietnamese community, allowing participants to experience the warmth and togetherness of a Vietnamese Tet celebration abroad. It also introduced Australian friends to the festive spirit of Vietnam’s Lunar New Year.

By fostering intergenerational, intellectual, and business connections, the event featured booths showcasing Vietnamese businesses, promoting tourism and trade. This initiative is particularly timely, given the regular direct flights now operated by Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air between the two countries.
