Bustling Vietnamese Tet in Many Countries around The World
Vietnamese people living in the UK have joined local people in a series of activities imbued with Vietnam’s traditional cultural features to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Dragon 2024, VNA reported.
The biggest annual festival of the Vietnamese community in the UK, the event attracted a large number of participants, with folk games, martial arts performances, and singing in Vietnamese.
A contest to wrap ‘banh chung’ (square sticky rice cake), a traditional dish for the Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival of Vietnamese people, was also held and joined in by many people.
Participants also had an opportunity to attend the spring fair, with traditional specialties such as Tet jam, salted/sugared dried fruits, green tea, banh chung, spring rolls, fresh fruits imported from Vietnam, and flowers and ornamental plants such as peach blossom, apricot blossom, and kumquat.
Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Nguyen Hoang Long affirmed that the embassy always accompanies overseas Vietnamese in the UK in community activities, contributing to preserving and promoting the cultural and humanistic values of the Vietnamese people.
In Japan, a 2024 Vietnamese New Year - “Xuan Que Huong” (Homeland Spring) Festival opened in Amagasaki city, Hyogo province, with about 80,000 people coming to the festival on February 3-4.

Earlier, on February 3, the Vietnamese Embassy in Sri Lanka held a Homeland Spring programme to bring a warm Tet atmosphere to the Vietnamese community in the South Asian nation.
Vietnamese people who are living, studying, and working in Sri Lanka gathered at the embassy and together prepared traditional Vietnamese dishes.
The Vietnamese Embassies in India and the Czech Republic also organized Lunar New Year celebrations for the Vietnamese communities there so that they could enjoy the biggest traditional event of their home country from faraway places.

The event in New Delhi on February 4 featured peach and apricot blossoms, lanterns, and traditional feasts like banh chung and fried spring rolls. Additionally, embassy staff and the community staged a series of cultural performances imbued with the Vietnamese cultural and spiritual essence.
On February 3, the Vietnamese Embassy in the Czech Republic, in collaboration with the Overseas Vietnamese Association in the country, held the Lunar New Year celebration, featuring performances by artists from Ho Chi Minh City's art troupe.
A wide range of activities have been held across Latin America for Vietnamese people living there to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Dragon.
On February 3, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba held a get-together on the occasion of Tet which will be celebrated from February 8-14.
Participants enjoyed traditional Vietnamese dishes, and watched art performances by Vietnamese students learning at various universities in Cuba.
The same day, a Homeland Spring programme was held in Mexico. A similar event was also hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil, during which Ambassador Bui Van Nghi extended his best wishes to guests and Vietnamese people living in Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Suriname and Guyana.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela also organized a community Tet event, during which Venezuelan singer and songwriter Alí Alejandro Primera sang several songs praising late President Ho Chi Minh, the founder of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), on the occasion of the CPV’s 94th founding anniversary (February 3, 1930-2024).
Meanwhile, a spring market was held by the Vietnamese youth and students’ association and the Vietnamese association in New York, recreated the traditional Tet space of Vietnamese people, with typical dishes of the three regions, folk games and art performances.
