Building digital customs and smart customs

Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang affirmed that the goal of the Vietnamese Government is to build and develop a modern, synchronous Customs industry, suitable for the country's socio-economic development. , according to international standards and practices.

Vietnam Customs' development strategy until 2030 is to take reform and modernization as the basis, modernizing the customs management model as the focus.

Vietnam promotes digital transformation in the customs industry to build formal, modern Customs, on par with the customs of developed countries in the world, leading in implementing digital government, with digital customs and smart customs models.

The country will continue to promote its responsible role in promoting international cooperation on customs in a comprehensive, extensive, and effective manner, developing relations with bilateral and multilateral customs partners.

Vietnam seriously implements agreements, cooperation programs, and commitments with international partners, promoting commitments synchronizing with the domestic legal system.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang said that the world is entering the digital era with the strong development of science, technology, and connectivity. Digital transformation is a global trend and a high priority in the socio-economic development of countries.

This context opens up great opportunities but also poses urgent requirements to promote innovation, change thinking and management methods in industries, including the customs sector.

Applying technology, promoting innovation in customs

General Director of Customs Nguyen Van Can said that currently, Vietnam Customs is implementing the connection of the national single window mechanism with ministries and branches, connecting the ASEAN Single Window with regional members, with Customs authorities of bordering countries and other countries around the world as recommended by the WCO and directed by the Government.

To soon achieve the set goal, Vietnam Customs hopes to continue to receive support from the WCO and the Customs agencies of member countries to continue promoting the development and circulation of goods globally, ensuring security and community safety, and contributing to the development of the WCO.

WCO Technology Conference & Exhibition 2023 is an event to introduce, exchange, and share experiences, solutions, and trends in technology application in customs management and trade facilitation between Customs authorities and partners.

At the conference, discussion sessions took place on technology application in customs operations, applying artificial intelligence, machine learning, the internet of things in goods screening, blockchain, and ledger technology to enhance reliability and data quality.

The Technology Conference & Exhibition 2023 is a major international event of the WCO and the largest international event ever for Vietnam Customs.

The conference was held at a meaningful time for Vietnam because the opening day of the conference was Vietnam's National Digital Transformation Day (October 10). This conveys a message about Vietnam's digital transformation program and the country's determination to digitally transform.
