Sevilla - the most successful name in the history of this competition

According to Squawka, Sevilla are the record title holders of this competition and will look to extend their trophy cabinet to six when they take to the turf later this week.

Under former Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui they have defeated Premier League opposition in Wolves and Man Utd to reach the showpiece and will be confident of knocking out another of the continent’s perennial powerhouses.

This will be the first-ever meeting in Europe between these two sides and it offers a tantalising prospect between two giants of the game. Inter Milan are unbeaten in the Europa League this term, having dropped out of the Champions League, while Sevilla have never lost a tie in Europe that’s been played out over a single leg.

Sevilla's record on German soil in European competition is also strong, winning nine of their 13 matches, suffering just three defeats. They have also been victorious in six of their 13 previous games against Italian opposition and have triumphed in all three of their Europa League knockout ties against Serie A teams.

This is the fourth time that Los Nervionenses have been present in the Europa League final, and they have won their last three, beating Benfica in 2014, Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in 2015 and Liverpool in 2016.

How Sevilla could line up against Inter Milan

Sports Mole looks at how Sevilla could line up in Cologne.

Lucas Ocampos was forced off in the early stages of the second half against United, with the Argentine picking up a knock. Ocampos is expected to recover in time for Friday's final, though, which would be a huge boost for Sevilla, who could have a full complement of players available.

Experienced forward Luuk de Jong came off the bench to score the winner in the semi-final, but Youssef En-Nesyri could again get the nod from the start, with the latter again expected to feature as a substitute.

Munir El Haddadi struggled to have an impact against the Red Devils, and it would not be a surprise to see Suso again feature in a wide area, with Ever Banega, Fernando and Joan Jordan in a midfield three.

There is every chance that head coach Julen Lopetegui will select an unchanged XI if Ocampos can prove his fitness, meaning that the likes of Franco Vazquez and Oliver Torres will have to accept spots on the bench once again.

Diego Carlos - linked with the likes of Barcelona, Manchester City and Liverpool - has been the subject of transfer speculation in recent months, and the Brazilian will again be joined in the heart of the defence by Jules Kounde.

According to Khel Now, Inter Milan are similarly strong in defence and have also conceded just a single goal since the competition’s restart, coming in their 2-1 quarter-final win over Bayer Leverkusen before they dispatched Shakhtar Donetsk 5-0 in the semi-final.

Coach Antonio Conte has created a solid back three, one which features a familiar foe for Sevilla in the form of former Villarreal and Atlético de Madrid centre-back Diego Godín, a man LaLiga fans around the world know very well.

Sports Mole looks at how Inter could line up against their Spanish opponents. Having thrashed Shakhtar by five goals in the semi-finals of the competition, it could be a case of same again from Conte when it comes to team selection.

Matias Vecino is definitely out with a knee injury, but there is a chance that Alexis Sanchez - recently signed on a permanent deal from Manchester United - could play some part as he battles a thigh problem.

Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez have both enjoyed excellent seasons for Inter, and the pair will again start as the front two in a 3-5-2 formation, with Ashley Young and Danilo D'Ambrosio likely to feature as the wing-backs despite Cristiano Biraghi pushing for a spot in the side.

Alessandro Bastoni is again expected to get the nod over Milan Skriniar as part of a back three, while Roberto Gagliardini should be preferred to both Christian Eriksen and Stefano Sensi in midfield.

The experienced Borja Valero also provides an option for change in a key area, but Conte is likely to again send the same XI onto the field, with Lukaku and Martinez expected to do the damage in attack.

Tactical breakdown

According to CBS Sports, Inter like to line up in a 3-5-2 with wing backs, meaning their back line can shift from three to five at any moment. That wing back formation gives them a ton of width, and they love playing crosses into the box. The stars of the team are strikers Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez, who combined for over 50 goals this season. They both scored twice in the semifinal win over Shakhtar.

Sevilla are a side that typically use a 4-3-3 formation and are more compact in the middle. They do get wide in attack with fullbacks in Jesus Navas and Sergio Reguilon who love to get forward, allowing their attackers to stay more centrally. They use quick passes and their speed to create havoc in attack, while also possessing creativity in the middle in Ever Banega.
