Exhibition Celebrating General Vo Nguyen Giap’s 110th Birthday Held in Algeria

To ensure Covid prevention, the embassy has applied strict measures in accordance with Algeria’s regulations, including dividing the exhibition into different sessions and limiting the number of visitors coming at a time.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Ambassador of Vietnam to Algeria Nguyen Thanh Vinh said the exhibition about General Vo Nguyen Giap was a meaningful event to honor the immense contributions of the general to the revolution of the people of Vietnam; it was also an opportunity for international friends to show their sentiments and admiration for General Giap. The ambassador also thanked the Ministry of Affairs and the Algerian community abroad for working effectively with the embassy to collect historical materials about General Vo Nguyen Giap.
Ambassador Vinh highlighted the biography, career and contributions of General Giap to Vietnam’s revolution and liberation movements across the world. The Ambassador believed that General Vo Nguyen Giap was a great source of motivation for Algeria’s revolution and an integral factor in fostering the relationship between Vietnam and Algeria.
The ambassador also mentioned the Vietnam’s victory in the Battle of Dien Bien Phu under the direct command of General Vo Nguyen Giap. The climactic battle was a momentous historical event, shaking countries under colonization across the world and showing that solidarity could bring a small, underdeveloped people to victory against mightier colonizers.

Answering a side-event interview, member of the Central Party of Algeria’s National Liberation Front in charge of foreign relations Mourad Lamoudi said, “General Vo Nguyen Giap was a shining example about the importance of people’s will in the fight for independence, showing that a firm belief in liberating a country is achievable.
For Algeria, the Battle of Dien Bien Phu was extremely importance, it ignited the will to fight in colonized peoples, making them stand up against colonialism. It was a priceless lesson and legacy for the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Algeria and the close relationship between the two Parties.”
Distinguished guests at the exhibition expressed that General Vo Nguyen Giap and President Ho Chi Minh were great sources of motivation for the people of Algeria and symbols of the fight for independence and peace in the world. The contribution of General Giap to developing the relationship between Vietnam and Algeria and other countries is an invaluable legacy and a lesson to remind future generations about indomitable will and conscience about independence and freedom.
After the opening ceremony of the exhibition, the distinguished guests and Algerian people can visit the photograph and historical material area, arranged by periods, from August 25 – 30, 2021.
