Being one of the most famous destinations for tourists traveling to Vietnam, Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park has set a benchmark of supreme quality in adventure tourism, not just in Vietnam and Asia, but also on a global level. Especially, you can not miss these wonderful caves hidden in this place, which have gorgeous views.

Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park is located near the Hin Namno nature reserve of Laos. It is one of the largest national parks and also the widest area in Vietnam. This place was recognized by UNESCO twice as a World Natural Heritage site, in 2003 and 2015 based on two criteria: geology - geomorphology and ecosystem - biodiversity. Phong Nha-Ke Bang is likened to a huge geological museum of global value.

The core zone of Phong Nha–Ke Bang national park covers 857.54 km2 and a buffer zone of 1,954 km2. The park protects the important karst regions and also the Annamite Range region’s ecosystem of limestone forest. Being evolved since the Paleozoic (some 400 million years ago), Phong Nha–Ke Bang karst becomes the oldest major karst area in Asia.

The park contains two dozen of mountain peaks over 1,000m in height, and the noteworthy peaks are Peak Co Rilata (1,128m) and Peak Co Preu (1,213m).

Son Doong Cave (Hang Son Doong)

Son Doong cave is the world’s largest natural limestone cave, located in the Phong Nha cave system, first discovered in 1990 and explored in 2009. The cave has a length of 9 km, and the arch of the cave is wide with a volume of 38.5 million cubic meters. Son Doong is five times bigger compared to Deer Cave in Malaysia, which is considered the largest cave in the world.

However, Son Doong cave is special because it contains many stalactites of huge size (more than 80m high), a primeval forest growing inside the cave, and its own ecosystem with endless underground rivers that no explorer has ever been able to explore.

On April 14, 2022, Google Doodle honored Hang Son Doong Cave on its search page in 18 countries around the world, including Vietnam, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Greece, the Republic of Guatemala, Republic of Honduras, Mexico, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Singapore, Sweden, Thailand, U.S. Virgin Islands, United Kingdom, and Brazil.

En Cave (Hang En)

Hang En is one of the largest natural caves in the world located deep in the core zone of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park. Possessing a large geological fault line, En cave has a large size with more than 1.6km stretching through the giant limestone block. There are 3 entrances into the cave, in which the most famous one is 120m high and 110m wide.

Hang En was voted one of the most spectacular caves in the world by National Geographic. The most special feature of Hang En Cave is the separate ecosystem and climate, along with a beautiful river, which will bring a unique experience to tourists.

Va Cave (Hang Va)

Hang Va is the place where you can find the most beautiful and rarest stalactites in the world. About 4km from Ho Chi Minh Road, Hang Va is one of the most unique of all the caves discovered in Phong Nha-Ke Bang. The cone-shaped stalactite system has a complex structure, with a large number and size, unlike any other cave.

Nuoc Nut Cave (Hang Nuoc Nut)

In 2001, the British-Vietnamese cave expedition discovered Nuoc Nut cave with the help of a local. The dry mouth of the cave leads into a cave with beautiful topography and stalactite structures and an underground stream bed. This stream is 2,2 km long and flows through the cave, then rises to the surface and flows through the Mada valley to join the Tra Ang River.

Hoa Huong Cave (Hang Hoa Huong)

Hoa Huong was surveyed in 2012 and 2016. The cave is 3910m long and 118m deep. The rock foundation that the geological fault line passes through to create Hoa Huong cave is about 251-360 million years old. This cave is roughly about 5 million years old, making it the oldest one in Phong Nha–Ke Bang.

Paradise Cave (Dong Thien Duong)

Paradise Cave (Dong Thien Duong) is a dry branch of Vom Cave. The entrance to the cave is located at kilometer 16 of Ho Chi Minh Street and belongs to ancient Karst terrain dating from about 350 to 400 million years old. It has a length of more than 3,5 km and is about 30 to 100m wide. The height from the foundation to the ceiling is about 60 - 80m.
