This marks the first time the exhibition is being held in Vietnam, with the theme "Hangeul - The Korean Writing System," intending to provide Vietnamese citizens with a visual appreciation of Hangeul's value.
The opening ceremony featured a calligraphy painting by artist Byeol Ha, President of the South Korean Calligraphy Design Association. The intricate artwork, showcasing lotus and mugunghwa flowers, symbolizes the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and South Korea.
In addition, the exhibition showcases 11 diverse artistic works, ranging from graphics, household items, handicrafts to fashion products, and videos depicting the transformative journey of Hangeul. Highlights include videos elucidating the principles and philosophies behind Hangeul's creation; Lee Hwayoung's artwork "Hangeul," which portrays modern Hangeul as a gateway to a new world; and "Jitae Chilgi," a lacquerwork on traditional paper, exemplifying the unique features of the Hangeul writing system.
Within the framework of the exhibition, the National Library of Vietnam and the National Hangeul Museum of South Korea signed a cooperation agreement to exchange knowledge and experience in preserving and developing language and script culture. This agreement also aims to promote cultural exchange through the display and introduction of documents, books, and cultural exhibitions between the two countries.

Addressing the event, South Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Choi Youngsam highlighted that the exhibition provides an opportunity to introduce the beauty and scientific nature of Hangeul to the Vietnamese people.
Director of the National Library of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Dung, noted that the exhibition activities and the cooperation memorandum reflect the shared commitment of both countries to fostering cultural understanding and encouraging academic cooperation.
The event offers a platform for scholars, researchers, and enthusiasts from both countries to engage in dialogue, exchange ideas, and build partnerships, thereby enriching the cultures of Vietnam and South Korea.
The exhibition will continue until August 9. Following its conclusion in Vietnam, the exhibition will be held in the Philippines in September 2024.
The Hangeul Experiment Project aims to reinterpret Hangeul, South Korea's inherent writing system, from a design perspective, highlighting its artistic and industrial value. Created by King Sejong (1397-1450) in 1443, Hangeul has formed the foundation of South Korean culture for over 500 years and has evolved alongside the lives of the South Korean people. |
