Under a decision released by the Chinese authorized agency, Vietnamese fresh chili products exported to China must ensure the country’s phytosanitary requirements.

All shipments of fresh chilies must be quarantined by relevant Vietnamese units with clear notes of relevant technical parameters in the phytosanitary certificate.

These are the first five Vietnamese enterprises licensed to officially export fresh chilies to China again, after the northern neighbor temporarily suspended importing the products from Vietnam.

As China, a market of 1.4 billion consumers, has great demand for food and farm produce, Vietnamese businesses should to carefully study China’s market regulations to meet its requirements, said Nong Duc Lai, Trade Counselor of the Vietnamese Embassy in China.

As of March 4, 2022, a total of 1,808 agricultural product and food codes were granted by Chinese authorities to Vietnamese enterprises for official export to their market, according to Lai.

China has asked Vietnam to cease exports in 2020 due to Covid-19.

Last year, despite serious impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the two sides maintained effective collaboration, contributing to stabilising people’s lives, ensuring social order, and boosting economic development, reported VNA.

Vietnam exported over USD 50.16 billion worth of goods to China between January and November, up 16.1% from a year earlier, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

By the end of November, China was the second largest destination of Vietnamese commodities, following the US. It also ranked second among importers of agro-forestry-fishery products from Vietnam, with import turnover of USD 8.4 billion during the period.

According to the Vietnam Sanitary and Phytosanitary Notification Authority and Enquiry Point (SPS Vietnam) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the current biggest difficulty is the slow approval process of the GACC without any regulation on the duration for approving the issuance of codes for businesses.

China stipulates 18 groups of goods that enterprises must register when exporting to the Chinese market under Order No. 248. For products outside those groups, exporters have to register via the foreign trade portal of the GACC.

To promote sustainable agricultural product exports, the domestic agriculture sector needs to change the method of production and export transaction, and promote quality control for farm produce and food products.
