A meeting with Vietnamese scientists living and working in Australia just hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia.

The meeting was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Luong Thanh Nghi, representatives from Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education and Training in Australia and more than 20 Vietnamese scientists working at universities, research institutes across Australia.

Speaking at the event in the capital of Canberra, Ambassador Luong Thanh Nghi said that the Vietnam-Australia comprehensive partnership relations, including the cooperation on science and technology, is developing well, and it has been especially promoted after Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit to Australia in March.

The two countries are also actively implementing the cooperation agreement on science and technology signed in 2013, especially information exchange, technology transfer and training.

The Vietnamese Ambassador also appreciated the practical contributions of Vietnamese scientists over the past time, contributing to promoting socio-economic development of the country.

This was the first time a meeting of this kind organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in order to listen to suggestions of researchers for the country's science, especially in the context of Vietnam is integrating deeply into world. Additionally, this is also an opportunity for Vietnamese scientists across Australia to meet and exchange each others.

At the meeting, the scientists discussed topics such as direct participation in scientific and technological activities in Vietnam, supporting technology transfer into Vietnam, performing joint research and cooperation themes, supporting to improve research skills for Vietnamese young scientists, establishing a network of scientific and technological collaborators in Australia.

In addition, the delegates contributed ideas about mechanisms and policies of Vietnam relating to contribution of overseas Vietnamese scientists; effective use of research themes; creating links between domestic experts and overseas Vietnamese scientists.

The meeting was one of the activities to realize policies on attracting overseas Vietnamese experts to expand and develop international cooperation relations in general and scientific and technological cooperation in particular to be able to shorten the duration of research and application of new technologies to serve the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country./.
