During the State visit to the Republic of Indonesia and the official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat from March 9 to 11, General Secretary To Lam, accompanied by his spouse and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, visited the Embassy of Vietnam to Indonesia. They also met with officials from representative agencies and members of the Vietnamese community residing in Indonesia.

At the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong reported to the General Secretary on the results of the Embassy's work, the situation of Vietnam-Indonesia bilateral relations, and work regarding the Vietnamese community in the area. The Vietnamese community in Indonesia, comprising around 500 individuals, leads a stable life characterized by unity and mutual support. They actively assist one another in self-improvement, comply with local laws, integrate well into Indonesian society, and eagerly participate in activities organized by the Embassy, such as National Day celebrations and traditional Tet festivals.

Although the number of overseas Vietnamese in Indonesia remains modest, the community includes several business representatives who have successfully established Vietnamese brands, making a notable impact on the local market. Additionally, some overseas Vietnamese are contributing their expertise by working for international and regional organizations such as the ASEAN Secretariat and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).

Ambassador Ton Thi Ngoc Huong, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to ASEAN, emphasized the significance of General Secretary To Lam's visit to the ASEAN Secretariat on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to ASEAN. She reported on the ASEAN cooperation situation and Vietnam's participation in ASEAN. During three decades as an ASEAN member, Vietnam has constantly fulfilled its role as an active, proactive, and responsible member.

"On behalf of the Vietnamese community in Indonesia, several representatives expressed their honor in meeting General Secretary To Lam. They conveyed deep pride and emotion at witnessing Vietnam's remarkable progress across various fields.

The representatives emphasized that Vietnam's growing prominence on the international stage serves as a source of inspiration, fostering greater confidence and a stronger connection to their heritage among overseas Vietnamese. They also extended their gratitude to the Party and State for their unwavering support and care for Vietnamese communities abroad, particularly those residing in Indonesia.

At the meeting, General Secretary To Lam expressed his heartfelt joy and emotion at the warm and patriotic atmosphere. He extended his warmest greetings to the people, officials, and staff of the Embassy, the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to ASEAN, as well as representatives from the Vietnamese community, businesses, and students in Indonesia.

The General Secretary highlighted the special significance of this visit, which coincides with several historic milestones: the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Indonesia (1955-2025), the 30th anniversary of Vietnam's membership in ASEAN, and the 80th anniversary of the founding of both nations. These important occasions underscore the enduring traditional friendship, nurtured by the leaders, governments, and citizens of both countries, including the vibrant contributions of the Vietnamese community in Indonesia.

General Secretary To Lam informed the people about the homeland's situation, achievements, and innovation efforts to promote the country's socio-economic development. He affirmed that under the leadership of the Party, the determination of the political system and all classes of people, including 6 million overseas Vietnamese, and the support of international friends, Vietnam has been developing in a positive direction, aiming to achieve the double-digit growth target.

On this occasion, the General Secretary spoke highly of the efforts of the Vietnamese community in Indonesia. Though the community is modest in size, they are constantly diligent in their work, successful in their business, and make many positive contributions to the host country.

The General Secretary affirmed the Party and State's attention to the overseas Vietnamese community in general and the Vietnamese community in Indonesia in particular. He emphasized that the community is an inseparable part of the nation and a vital resource. The Party and State have implemented specific policies to support overseas Vietnamese, ensuring their legal status, helping them stabilize their lives, and facilitating their integration into host societies. These efforts aim to strengthen the great national unity bloc, encourage their active contribution to national development and defense, and address their proposals, challenges, and difficulties in a timely manner.

The General Secretary further noted that, during discussions with Indonesian leaders, he would advocate for continued support to enable the overseas Vietnamese community to live, study, work, and integrate into Indonesian society actively and responsibly. He emphasized their potential to contribute meaningfully to Indonesia’s development and to the strong relationship between the two nations.

On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam also held a brief meeting and exchange with representatives of officials and staff from the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to ASEAN.
