Grammy 2021 nominations are finally out. Below is what you need to know about this year's award.

How is this year's award held amid COVID-19?

According to the award's website, on Jan. 31, 2021, the 63rd GRAMMY Awards will be happening, rain or shine, COVID-19 vaccine or not. Grammy itself stated, "The health and safety of artists, guests, crew, and staff is always front of mind during every GRAMMYs, so, logistically, things will be a little different this year."

"Music fans from around the globe will be able to watch the dazzling show live on CBS / CBS All Access. Additionally, the GRAMMY Premiere Ceremony, where the majority of the 84 categories of awards are handed out, will be streamed live on GRAMMY.com. Just like the main show, the Premiere Ceremony also features epic live performances from GRAMMY nominees and star-studded announcers", it added.

Grammys 2021: The Biggest Snubs and Surprises, BTS - first Korean band nominated

According to BBC, global sensation BTS has become the first K-pop group to ever receive a Grammy Award nomination. Their latest hit song "Dynamite" was nominated for the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category, alongside stars like Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift. This nomination does not come as a surprise since the K-pop group has had a successful run this year. BTS has also broken several music records with their brand new single, Dynamite.

The group posted a reaction video on Twitter, showing them cheering when their nomination was announced. K-pop expert Jeff Benjamin tweeted that the Grammy nomination was a "huge long-awaited moment in their careers". He added that it marked a major moment for diversity for "music's biggest night" - which will be held on 31 January.

Beyoncé leads all artists with nine total. "Black Parade" earned her nods in the record of the year, song of the year, best r&b performance and best r&b song categories. "Savage" with Megan Thee Stallion is also up for record of the year, best rap performance and best rap song. Beyonce tops off her nominations with best music video ("Brown Skin Girl") and best music film (Black Is King.)

Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa and Roddy Rich follow Queen Bey, with six nods a piece.

Six nominations brings Swift's total to 41. Folklore is up for album of the year, and best pop vocal album, "Cardigan" will compete for song of the year and best pop solo performance. With "Exile," she's nominated alongside Bon Iver for best pop duo/group performance. Her sixth nomination is best song written for visual media for "Beautiful Ghosts," from Cats.

Dua Lipa's Future Nostalgia is up for album of the year and best pop vocal album. "Don't Start Now" appears in the record of the year, song of the year and best pop solo performance categories. She's also up for best pop duo/group performance with J Balvin, Bad Bunny and Tainy for "Un Dia (One Day)." Dua Lipa's nomination total grows to eight.

Roddy Ricch now has nine total nominations. In 2021, he is up for record of the year ("Rockstar"), song of the year ("The Box"), best melodic rap performance and best rap song for both "Rockstar" and "The Box."

K-pop sensation BTS and former One Directioner Harry Styles each earned their first Grammy nods -- BTS is up for best pop duo/group performance ("Dynamite") and Styles has three nominations, best pop solo performance ("Watermelon Sugar"), best pop vocal album (Fine Line), and best music video ("Adore You").

Trevor Noah to host 2021 Grammy Awards

The Daily Show host and comedian Trevor Noah have been tapped to host the 2021 Grammy Awards. The Recording Academy made the announcement hours before the nominees for the upcoming show are revealed. It would mark Noah's first time hosting the Grammys, which are currently scheduled to be held on Jan. 31.

Trevor Noah (born 20 February 1984) is a South African comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, actor, and television host. He is the host of The Daily Show, an American satirical news program on Comedy Central.

Earlier this year, Noah competed for his first Grammy Award: The 36-year-old Emmy winner was nominated for best comedy album with Son of Patricia but lost to Dave Chappelle. "Despite the fact that I am extremely disappointed that the GRAMMYs have refused to have me sing or be nominated for the best pop album, I am thrilled to be hosting this auspicious event," Noah said in a statement.

The Grammys have a history of problems with inclusion. Many have criticized them for not honoring predominantly Black genres like hip-hop and R&B in the general field as much as pop and rock. Consider the recent losses of massively acclaimed albums by Black artists, most noticeably “Lemonade” and “Beyoncé” by Beyoncé, “To Pimp A Butterfly” and “DAMN” by Kendrick Lamar, and “Channel Orange” by Frank Ocean.

According to Goldderby, this year, the recording academy has been implementing changes to increase diversity in the voting membership and the awards themselves. One of these changes was appointing Valeisha Butterfield Jones as Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer. The academy has also invited more voters, a lot of whom are from underrepresented groups. According to their New Members demographic, over 37% of new members are non-Caucasian, and 48% are women.
