Hai Duong provide $21,792 in aid for Laos’ Covid-19 fight
President of Hai Duong’s Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Nguyen Duc Tuan handed over 500 million VND (21,792 U.S dollars) to Chairman of Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association in Hai Duong Nguyen Quang Phuc to assist Lao people in the Covid-19 battle. 200 million VND of which is dedicated to Vientiane, Hai Duong’s twinned province.

Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association will use the above donation along with contributions from other friendship associations across Vietnam to purchase medical equipment and supplies to gift Laos.
Hai Duong hoped that the aid would partly help Laos to soon stamp out the pandemic.
Colonel Nguyen Chien, Deputy Commander of Army Corps 11 under the Vietnamese Defense Ministry on May 13 presented 10.000 N95 masks to Chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly's Cultural and Social Committee Thummali Vongphachan to support it in the Covid-19 battle.

Thummaly Vongphachan expressed thanks to Army Corps 11 for its timely and valuable assistance, adding that face masks were really essential for the Lao National Assembly amid the complex situation of Covid-19.
Colonel Nguyen Chien handed over 200.000 medical masks and 10 tons of rice to the Lao Defense Ministry to aid Lao people.
The Vietnamese Association in Laos was also given 60.000 face masks.
On May 12, Army Corps 11 gifted 10.000 masks and 5.000 others to North That Luang Ward and Thatluang Pagoda in Vientiane Capital.
On May 13, the Military Region 4 Command presented medical equipment and supplies to the Lao People's Army at Cau Treo international border gate in central Ha Tinh province.
Lao Party General Secretary and State President Thongloun Sisoulith has thanked Vietnamese leaders for their messages of sympathies over the Covid-19 situation in Laos. In a thank-you letter to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Thongloun Sisoulith said the Vietnamese leaders’ messages have vividly demonstrated the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported. The Lao leader also highlighted Vietnam’s valuable, timely and effective support to Laos in personnel, medical supplies and medicines, saying the assistance has significantly contributed to the pandemic fight in his country. “We always keep a close watch on the Covid-19 situation in Vietnam, and highly value the measures taken by the Vietnamese Party and government to contain the pandemic,” he said. Vietnam is one of the countries that have reaped great successes in Covid-19 prevention and control which have been lauded by the international community, the Lao leader continued. “We believe that under the leadership of the Community Party of Vietnam and with the great national unity bloc, Vietnam will beat Covid-19,” he said, pledging that Laos will closely cooperate with Vietnam to win over the pandemic |
The Lao Ministry of Health confirmed 16 new cases of Covid-19, including one domestic infection, and one more death from the coronavirus epidemic on May 14. The remaining 15 imported cases have been immediately placed under quarantine upon arrival. As of May 14 afternoon, the total number of confirmed cases in Laos rose to 1,498 with two deaths. A total of 513 Covid-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals. |
