At the invitation of the council, the authorities of the capital and cities of countries, from August 14 to 23, the Hanoi delegation led by Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, chairman of the Hanoi People's Council had a visit to the United States and France.

The visit aims to strengthen and promote friendship and cooperation with localities and big cities of the United States and France.

It promotes cooperation in areas of mutual interest, focusing on economic, investment, trade and tourism development.

The two countries also organized conferences to promote investment-trade-tourism and other activities to concretize the results of the Vietnam-France local cooperation conference in 2023.

Paul Krekoria, head of the Los Angeles city council presented souvenirs to the Hanoi delegation.

At the meeting, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan appreciated the warm welcome of the Los Angeles city's council and the government.

He gave an overview of Hanoi, emphasizing that Hanoi is the capital with a long history and tradition. Hanoi has been recognized by UNESCO as a city for peace, a member of the network of creative cities. Hanoi has friendly relations with more than 100 capitals and cities around the world.

He appreciated the developments in the friendship and cooperation relations between Vietnam and the United States over the years.

He said he always attaches importance to the relationship between Vietnam and the United States, the relationship between the capital Hanoi and US cities.

Nguyen Ngoc Tuan also said that this is the basis and foundation for cities to focus on promoting, and strengthening cooperation and friendship in the coming time.

The Hanoi city delegation surveyed the Metro project of the city of Los Angeles which had just been completed, put into operation and used.

As for the city of Los Angeles, from 2018, the two sides agreed to promote negotiations towards signing a cooperation agreement in the fields of transportation, environment and building smart city, strengthening culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

Currently, the Memorandum of Understanding between the two cities is being promoted and finalized by the parties. Hanoi hopes to soon implement the signing in 2023 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership. This makes the cooperation and friendship go into depth, and become more practical.

Hanoi proposed the Los Angeles city government to act as a bridge to strengthen investment, trade and tourism activities between the two cities.

The city supports US businesses to find information and organize investment promotion activities, especially in priority areas.

The activities include smart city construction, infrastructure development, urban transport, healthcare, technology transfer, innovative start-ups, environment, waste treatment, strengthening delegation exchange activities, and organizing cultural and people-to-people exchange activities.
