Ho Chi Minh City has yet to decide the reopening of gyms, bars and beer clubs although the southern metropolis has gone through 21 straight days without domestic COVID-19 infections, a local official has said.
Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong told Zing that the city will assess the COVID-19 situation in the country and adjacent cities and provinces before making the decision.
“Since March 1, schools and certain services have been resumed in the city. However, many others have still remained closed,” he said.

Phong explained that one infection case within the community would make the pandemic grow out of control in the densely-populated city, and stressed the need to maintain vigilance against the virus.
The economic hub has allowed the resumption of tourism, transport and catering services, along with markets, supermarkets, commercial centers, museums and libraries, since the beginning of this month.
The city has ordered keeping a distance of at least one meter and a size of fewer than 30 people for catering services in order to reduce the risk of the coronavirus spreading.
