In 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association (the Association) made significant strides with numerous people-to-people diplomatic initiatives and social programs imbued with profound humanitarian values. These activities not only strengthened the Vietnam-Cambodia friendship but also enhanced the Association’s reputation and role within the city.

Promoting Effective Diplomatic Programs

According to the Association’s report, 2024 saw the implementation of various key exchange programs and events that left a lasting impression on the community. Notable activities included:

A meeting and exchange were held with 180 Laotian and Cambodian students during the Lunar New Year of the Dragon 2024 at the Cu Chi Tunnels. This annual activity underscores the Association’s dedication to young generations, particularly international students studying in Vietnam. The event provided an opportunity for Laotian and Cambodian students to learn about Vietnam's history and culture, further solidifying the friendship among the youth of the three nations.

A gathering was organized to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the victory over the genocidal regime, reflecting on historical traditions and strengthening the bond between the two nations. Additionally, the Chol Chnam Thmay New Year 2024 was celebrated with Laotian and Cambodian students at the Ho Chi Minh City Command Headquarters, featuring cultural exchanges and traditional games.

The Vietnam-Cambodia-Laos Business Forum was hosted in Ho Chi Minh City, boosting trade and creating numerous opportunities for economic collaboration among enterprises from the three countries.

After 12 years, the Association organized a delegation to visit and collaborate with the Phnom Penh Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association. This delegation, including the Governor of Phnom Penh and the Association’s President, marked a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations.

The Association actively participated in Lunar New Year 2024 celebrations hosted by central organizations and the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations. It also inaugurated new chapters in District 8 and Binh Chanh District.

Outstanding Achievements in Social Charity Work

The Association’s charitable efforts in 2024 achieved remarkable results, with total support exceeding VND 6.55 billion. Highlighted initiatives included:

The Association mobilized businesses and benefactors to fund the construction of two mortuaries in Banteay Meanchey and Tboung Khmum provinces, Cambodia, worth VND 1 billion. Vice President Le Thi Giau personally contributed VND 350 million and participated in the groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies, where she donated an additional USD 5,000 to support the Cambodian military and local communities.

To commemorate the 47th anniversary of former Prime Minister Hun Sen’s journey to liberate Cambodia, the Association collaborated with the Ho Chi Minh City Command, the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association of Tay Ninh Province, and the Tam Viet Medical Team to organize health checkups, distribute medicines, and provide gifts to 800 underprivileged residents in border areas of Tan Binh Commune (Tay Ninh Province) and Ko Commune (Tboung Khmum Province, Cambodia). The Ho Chi Minh City Command and Binh Thanh District also donated four houses worth over VND 700 million to Tan Bien District.

The delegation continued their mission in Hung Ha Commune (Long An Province) and Krous Commune (Svay Chrum District, Cambodia), conducting health checkups and delivering aid to 800 impoverished residents. Donations included three houses valued at nearly VND 650 million, contributed by Districts 5 and 10. These efforts improved community health and fostered goodwill between the peoples of the two nations.

The Tam Viet Medical Team conducted 30 charity missions across Vietnam and Cambodia, treating over 10,743 patients, distributing 7,163 gift packages, constructing two bridges, and building five houses, totaling nearly VND 4.25 billion.

The Association also supported Cambodian students in Ho Chi Minh City with VND 216 million, funded eye surgeries for 350 underprivileged patients, and provided Tet gifts to former Border Guards.

In 2025, the Association plans to continue mobilizing enterprises and benefactors to support social programs. A key focus will be coordinating with the Ho Chi Minh City Command and related units to organize two social and charitable missions along the Vietnam-Cambodia border.

These efforts not only preserve the Association’s honorable traditions but also embody deep humanitarian values, contributing to the development of military-civil solidarity and a robust, enduring friendship between the two nations.
