HKI Vietnam delivers over 1,000 ducks to Lai Chau's impoverished villages

The EHFP Project is in line with the aim of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to eradicate hunger and malnutrition by 2030. It will address the complex root causes of malnutrition by economically empowering families and communities by providing them with access to resources to help lift them out of poverty in a sustainable manner. In addition to food production and nutrition education, it will build agriculture-related livelihoods to generate income, empower women, and promote health and hygiene.
In 2017, the Enhanced Homestead Food Production Project in Lai Chau began. The project aims to improve the nutritional levels of mothers and children below five years of age via many ways such as education on importance of nutrition, agricultural training, production and consumption of nutritious foods through the homestead food production program as well as empowering participating women to contribute to improved nutrition and well-being in their families and communities.

Before the handover, the HKI staff coordinated with local partners to check on the barns and offer technical advice on duck raising for each household in each village.
Black siamese duck has many outstanding advantages: short growing time and easy to raise. They are generally regarded as more robust and hardy compared to other bird species. With the right diet, fresh water, room to exercise and a clean environment, ducks tend to get sick less often but farmers need to be aware of some diseases that may cause massive losses if they strike.
Especially, their meat is extremely nutritious with rich and full of flavour.
Hopefully, with training sessions that HKI project has provided, in the near future, the ducks will develop well, grow quickly and lay eggs soon, to help households improve nutrition and food security in their families and communities./.
