Diversified foreign affairs activities

Underscoring the vital role of people-to-people diplomacy, the City Fatherland Front Committee and its member organizations have proactively disseminated Party resolutions and State decrees related to international engagement through a variety of innovative and engaging channels, thereby fostering a deeper understanding of the importance of global integration among cadres, union members, and association members.

The Youth Union has organized training sessions on specialized topics, skills, and international youth protocol, such as "The impact of international integration on youth and international youth work over the years," "Multicultural management and responding to cultural diversity in international youth work."

Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee commends units that perform well in people's foreign affairs work.

The Union of Friendship Organizations of the city provides information and promotes the city’s people-to-people diplomacy activities. It collaborates with member associations to organize commemorative events for occasions such as Independence Day, National Day, Peace Day, and Friendship Day.

At the grassroots level, local Fatherland Front Committees actively develop coordination programs to organize gatherings for overseas Vietnamese, set up recreational activities, and host competitions to promote knowledge about the history, culture, cuisine, and fashion of countries worldwide. They also promote and encourage overseas Vietnamese, their families, and foreigners to participate in social welfare activities and establish overseas Vietnamese clubs within the community.

There have been positive changes in relationships with foreign people's organizations, especially highlighted by improved coordination in welcoming and engaging with these organizations during their visits to the city, creating a more seamless and synchronized approach.

For example, they organized a delegation to visit and engage with the Lao Front for National Construction in Vientiane Capital and Champasak Province to sign a cooperation memorandum for the 2022-2024 period. They also hosted a delegation from the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction to visit and work in the city, aiming to exchange experiences in the field of agriculture and explore the strengths of Ho Chi Minh City and Laos for potential agricultural cooperation.

Effectively utilize resources

Ngo Thanh Son, vice chairman of the City Fatherland Front Committee, said that over the past time, people-to-people diplomacy activities have been selected to suit the functions and tasks of the parties involved, and are linked to political tasks and requirements.

However, many limitations of this work still exist, such as cadres working on people-to-people diplomacy and overseas Vietnamese hold multiple positions, have limited foreign language skills and communication skills, and have not been professionally trained.

There are still many limitations and difficulties in gathering information and data on Vietnamese people overseas and their relatives due to the lack of a unified set of criteria for updating information. Work to grasp the situation of Vietnamese people overseas faces difficulties due to limited opportunities to travel abroad to visit, exchange, understand the thoughts and aspirations of overseas Vietnamese, and establish relationships to serve the work with overseas Vietnamese.

According to Ngo Thanh Son, the City Committee on Overseas Vietnamese has strengthened outreach, advocacy, and dissemination of the Party's policies and state laws to overseas Vietnamese. At the same time, it has promoted the protection of citizens and the legitimate rights of overseas Vietnamese.

The committee has arranged for overseas Vietnamese to visit and learn about the life of naval officers working in coastal areas and islands, thereby helping overseas Vietnamese to love their homeland more and be more proud of their country. It has actively advised on organizing seminars and conferences, both in-person and online, to listen to the opinions and suggestions of overseas Vietnamese for the development of Ho Chi Minh City and the entire country.

The unit has also developed and issued a coordinated program on implementing work with overseas Vietnamese for the 2020-2024 period, contributing to promoting national unity and creating favorable conditions for the overseas Vietnamese community to stabilize their lives and develop, while preserving the Vietnamese national identity and looking towards the homeland. Ngo Thanh Son said that in the 2024-2029 period, the commitee will continue to promote the implementation of new content in the work with overseas Vietnamese.
