Ho Chi Minh City Shows Appreciation to Foreign Agencies for Covid's Support

Vo Van Hoan, Vice-chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has highlighted the role of foreign mission representatives in the city’s achievements in Covid-19 prevention and control, reported VNA.
At a reception for foreign mission representatives held by the municipal People’s Committee, the official expressed his gratitude for their positive contributions to the fight against the pandemic, contributing to the city’s socio-economic outcomes during the first half of this year.
Congratulating the Service Company to Foreign Mission (FOSCO) on its 43rd founding anniversary, Hoan spoke highly of the performance of the company, especially in providing services to consular delegations, international and non-governmental organizations, foreign economic representative offices, helping realize the external relations work of the city.
According to the municipal Department of Industry and Trade, the city’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) in June 2022 increased by 5.2% month-on-month and 11.5% year-on-year. The index in the first half of this year rose by 3.1% over the same period. |
Addressing the event, Kho Ngee Seng Roy, Consul General of Singapore in HCM City and head of the Consular Delegation in the city, thanked FOSCO for supporting diplomatic missions and foreign organizations to work in Vietnam.
He believed that the relations between foreign diplomatic agencies and FOSCO as well as the city’s administration will further develop in the future for mutual benefit.
According to Le Thi Hong Hau, Chairman of FOSCO’s Board of Members, over the past 43 years, the company has provided various types of services to diplomatic agencies, international and non-governmental organizations, and representative offices of foreign economic organizations in HCM City and other localities in the south of Vietnam.
In addition to guiding foreign organizations to strictly observe Vietnamese laws and create favorable conditions for them to have a safe and effective working environment, FOSCO has contributed to the city’s success in the implementation of foreign policy, she said.

HCM City attracted USD 2.18 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first six months of 2022, a year-on-year increase of 60.07%, according to the municipal Department of Planning and Investment.
From January to June, 291 new projects were granted investment certificates, up 5.43% compared to the same period last year, with total registered capital of USD 223.75 million, down 1.28% from last year.
In addition, 68 projects applied to adjust their investment capital, a decline of 2.86% over the same period, with total additional registered capital reaching USD 1.37 billion, up 205.19% compared to the same period last year.
There were also 1,105 approved transactions in the form of capital contribution and share purchases by foreign investors in the first half, a year-on-year rise of 9.62%, with the total value of contributed capital reaching over USD 583.11 million, down 15.12% year-on-year.
The city, previously called Sai Gon - Gia Dinh, was renamed Ho Chi Minh by the National Assembly on July 2, 1976, aiming to honour its enormous contributions to Vietnam’s struggle for independence as well as local development.
