Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang met Chief Minister of India’s Gujarat state Bhupendra Patel on the occasion of his attendance at the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit held from January 9 to January 12, VOV reported.

Deputy PM Quang emphasized that cooperation opportunities between the nation and Gujarat are being opened up, especially since the launch of direct flights between the state and the two major Vietnamese cities of Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in November, 2022, with a frequency of 14 flights a week. In addition, many Gujarat-based corporations plan to invest in the Vietnamese market.

He proposed that the Chief Minister continue paying attention to boosting the two sides’ cooperation, including intensifying delegation exchanges; increasing the efficiency of economic, trade, and investment ties; speeding up negotiations to raise flight frequency; and strengthening collaboration between the two countries’ localities.

Chief Minister Patel listened closely to the information shared by Deputy PM Quang about the Vietnamese situation, particularly its mechanisms and policies to offer favorable conditions for foreign investors, including those from India, in the fields it has needs in such as energy, infrastructure, seaport, oil and gas, innovation, green economy, and digital transformation.

According to him, there is huge potential for greater cooperation and investment for Vietnamese businesses in Gujarat, as the state is located in an important geographical location in the Asian - Middle East – European infrastructure connectivity.

Deputy PM Quang used the occasion to invite Chief Minister Patel to visit Vietnam to seek further collaboration opportunities, with the latter accepting the invitation.

The 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit was conceptualized in 2003 under the visionary leadership of Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India (the then Chief Minister of Gujarat), according to VNA.

It has today evolved as one of the most reputed global forums for business networking, knowledge sharing and strategic partnerships for inclusive growth and sustainable development.

This year’s biennial event drew the attendance of Indian leaders and businesspeople, and guests from more than 100 countries.

Addressing the summit, Quang stressed the importance of topics discussed at the summit focusing on the theme of “Gateway to the future”, such as green economy, circular economy, digital economy, e-commerce and smart city, which are also Vietnam’s priorities during its development and international integration.

The Deputy PM gave some suggestions to spur the development of the areas and expressed his belief that as the fifth largest economy in the world, India can lead the process.

Later the same day, Quang delivered a speech at the Vietnam-India Business Forum, in which he emphasized that the bilateral economic cooperation has yet to match the political ties between the two countries, as well as their potential and strengths.

Ample room remains for Vietnam and India to boost their collaboration in the time ahead, particularly in such emerging areas as green economy, circular economy, digital transformation, software, semiconductors and AI, he noted.

Also on January 10, Deputy PM Quang had meetings with foreign leaders and businesspeople attending the summit.

Deputy PM Quang is the first high-ranking Vietnamese leader to attend the event, marking the first high-level exchange between the two nations this year. This presents an opportunity for the Deputy PM to engage with leaders of India and Gujarat on measures and strategies to further boost ties between Vietnam and India, and between their localities, with the goal of achieving a two-way trade volume of USD 20 billion in the coming time.
