Although celebrating the Independence Day in a different way, in the hearts of every citizen of the capital, they firmly believe that the pandemic will soon pass, and Hanoi will soon be "healthy" again.

"70 years of my life, I have never seen a time on National Day, Hanoi is quiet like this. Every year, when I step out into the alley, I see people excited, the sound of loudspeakers playing songs of resistance, children and grandchildren reunited. This year, everyone stays at home," Phuong Mai (Dong Da, Hanoi) said.

In previous years, every morning on September 2, she would wear an elegant Ao dai, go with her husband to Ba Dinh Square to wait for the flag raising ceremony, and then leisurely go down Thanh Nien street to enjoy Hanoi's autumn, go around the old town, Hoan Kiem Lake. "This year, when I watched on TV, I saw that those crowded spots were all quiet," she said.

Previously, Hanoi was only empty on the morning of the first day of Tet holiday. In other days of the year, Hanoi rarely has such peace, quiet, and absence of car horns. On those early autumn mornings on September 2, Hanoians eagerly welcomed the National Day. Places such as Ba Dinh Square, Ho Guom walking street, amusement parks are all crowded.

But on the morning of September 2 this year, Hanoi was so calm.
