India and Soc Trang Province Promote Bilateral Ties

On December 26, at the People's Committee of Soc Trang province, Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City Madan Mohan Sethi led the delegation to visit and work with leaders of Soc Trang province.

The delegation of the Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City was received by Tran Van Lau, Chairman of Soc Trang Provincial People's Committee, and leaders of provincial departments and agencies.

At the meeting, Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province said that in recent times, the relationship between Vietnam and India has been developing very well in all fields. Particularly, Soc Trang province and India has a close relationship, with many cultural exchange activities having been implemented. Most recently, in August 2023, within the framework of the "Hello Vietnam" Festival, the "India - Soc Trang Cultural Exchange Night" took place at the Provincial Convention Cultural Center.

Chairman of Soc Trang Provincial People's Committee Tran Van Lau further informed that many large traffic projects are being constructed in the province, such as: Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway, Dai Ngai Bridge, the expansion of National Highway 91B, which is expected to be put into operation in early 2028. In addition, the Vietnamese Prime Minister has approved the provincial planning, the policy for Soc Trang province to establish Tran De Seaport. The province is now implementing land and water area planning and developing a pre-feasibility report.

These projects will create space and room for development for Soc Trang in particular, as well as provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region. Tran Van Lau hopes that in the coming time, Consul General Madan Mohan Sethi will act as a bridge, calling on Indian businesses to come and survey the projects that Soc Trang is calling for investment in the fields of seaports, logistics, industry, tourism, renewable energy...

Indian Consul General Madan Mohan Sethi thanked the leaders of Soc Trang province for the warm welcome. According to the Indian official, about 400,000 Indian tourists are coming to Vietnam each year, one of the destinations is Soc Trang province. In the coming time, the Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City hopes to cooperate with Soc Trang province in the field of tourism, through connecting travel companies between the two countries. Further cooperation in other fields is also expected to promote, such as in education, medicine and health care, economics, business administration...

The Indian Consul General proposed that Soc Trang province organize a conference with the participation of provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region and Indian businesses to explore each other's potential and cooperation opportunities. The Consul General pledged to invite Indian businesses and investors to learn and survey projects calling for investment in Soc Trang and localities in the region.
