India-Based Vietnam Embassy Meets Overseas Vietnamese

The Vietnamese Embassy in India on April 1 held an online meeting with representatives of the Vietnamese communities in India and Nepal, reported VNA Sunday.
In his remarks, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai affirmed that the policies of the Vietnamese Party and State always consider overseas Vietnamese an integral part of the nation, and an important resource for national construction, development, and defense.
The Party and State always encourage Vietnamese abroad to return and invest in business and production at home, contributing to national construction and defense, he continued.
The diplomat briefed the OVs on the homeland’s situation as well as the development of the Vietnam-India comprehensive strategic partnership.

Representatives of the Vietnamese communities thank and appreciate the Embassy for organizing a friendly meeting, helping people connect and having the opportunity to share their life situations and recommendations with the Vietnamese representative missions in India. According to them, the life of Vietnamese people in India and Nepal is generally stable, they frequently use Vietnamese in communication and raising children.
They proposed specific recommendations to strengthen student engagement in India, creating favorable conditions for tourism and travel between Vietnam and India; as well as solutions facilitating payment between the two countries, and expressed their hope that the Party and State will pay more attention to the export of Vietnamese farming and aquatic products to India.
Hai lauded the solidarity of the OVs and urged them to continue preserving the Vietnamese language for the next generations.
Emphasizing that the work for Vietnamese in India and Nepal has been, is, and will continue to be the focus of the Vietnamese representative missions in India, the diplomat welcomes and responds to comments and suggestions of OVs.
From the establishment of their diplomatic relations in 1972 to that of their strategic partnership in 2007, and the comprehensive strategic partnership in 2016, the political-diplomatic relationship between the two countries has been increasingly consolidated and developed, creating a strong impetus for cooperation in various fields.
The relationship was founded by President Ho Chi Minh and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, and has been cultivated by generations of their leaders through the exchange of high-level delegations and commitments to support each other in multilateral and international forums.

By the end of 2021, the two-way trade reached USD 13.2 billion and is heading for USD 20 billion in the coming time. India is the 27th largest foreign investor out of the 140 countries and territories investing in Vietnam with more than 300 projects and a total registered investment capital of nearly USD 1 billion.
The Vietnamese community living in India is only a few hundred people, and about 100 people in Nepal.
Currently, Vietnamese people in India have reached the fourth generation. In general, people feel secure doing business in the host country, participating in business promotion activities, acting as a bridge for economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
The local Vietnamese Association has played an active role in promoting solidarity and mutual support among the Vietnamese communities in India and Nepal.
