According to Skymet Weather, a fresh Western Disturbance is over Jammu and Kashmir. A Western Disturbance is over North Afghanistan and adjoining north of Pakistan. A cyclonic circulation is over eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh. A low-level trough is extending from Kerala to the Gujarat coast.

Another trough is extending from the southwest Bay of Bengal to North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh coast.

During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain with isolated heavy spells are expected over Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, south interior Karnataka, and parts of Tamil Nadu.

Scattered light to moderate rain is expected over coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, and parts of Telangana.

Isolated light rain is expected over Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland. Light to moderate rain and snow is expected over Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh, and isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh.

Dance to very dense fog is expected over isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), two back-to-back western disturbances will influence the weather in the northernmost parts of the country over this weekend and the beginning of next week.

The first western disturbance is likely to produce light to moderate, isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall, along with isolated thunderstorms and lightning, over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan and Muzaffarabad on Saturday and Sunday, February 20-21.

This system will immediately be followed by another western disturbance, which will affect the weather across the Western Himalayan Region from Monday, February 22. Under its influence, light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall, with isolated thunderstorms, lightning and hail, are all on the cards from Monday to Wednesday, Feb 22-24.

The Weather Channel’s met team has indicated that the rain and snow spell will begin on Sunday, and continue until the middle of next week with some increase in intensity.

After 10 days of bright sunshine, the weather office on Saturday predicted intermittent mild wet spells in Jammu and Kashmir for the next nine days, Hindustan Times reported.

Weather officials said that three back-to-back western disturbances – winds blowing from the Mediterranean which bring rains or snow in the valley – will hit the region from Saturday.

“We expect wet spells from today till the end of the month. A feeble western disturbance is overhead today which has caused this cloudy cover, two more weather systems are expected on February 22 and 25 which may culminate on February 28,” said meteorologist, Mohammad Hussain Mir.

He said that there will be mostly rains in the plains and mild snowfall in the higher reaches. “We should expect daily spells of mild showers. On February 28 there is an expectation of snowfall in the plains as well,” he said.

After a bitter cold wave er in January, Kashmir has witnessed dry weather for more than 10 days now with day temperatures hovering 8-9 degrees above normal in the summer capital Srinagar.

5-Day Nationwide Weather Forecast

According to Weather.com, a trough is located over Southwest Bay of Bengal at present, and its related rainband is approaching the east coast of Southern India. Under its influence, Tamil Nadu, southern Andhra Pradesh, and the adjoining areas will see isolated to fairly widespread rains, along with some intense thunderstorms this weekend. Further, light to moderate showers at isolated/scattered places, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning, are also likely over South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Kerala and Mahe during the next 24 hours.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a fresh western disturbance is set to affect Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan & Muzaffarabad from Saturday. Under its influence, light to moderate isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning very likely over the region during February 20-21.

This event will be directly followed by another disturbance, and continue until the middle of next week with some increase in intensity. The second system will affect the Western Himalayan Region from February 22. Under its influence, light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall with isolated thunderstorms, lightning and hail are very likely over these regions during February 22-24. Total snow accumulation for the next five days is estimated to be 20-75 cm, with locally 100 cm also possible.

Maximum temperatures will be 4 to 8C cooler than normal across inland areas of Southern India this weekend. Meanwhile, higher maximums are likely across Northern India during this forecast period. Inland Saurashtra may see daytime highs of over 35C from Sunday. The area with highs of over 35C is forecast to extend to the Konkan coast as we head into next week.

Minimum temperatures will be warmer than normal across much of the country during this forecast period, except for the Deccan Plateau, where temperatures will be normal.

Dense to very dense fog is expected in isolated/some pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan during the morning hours of February 20-21, with a reduction in intensity and spatial coverage likely thereafter.

Scattered snow/rain and thunderstorms are likely over Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast over Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka.

Isolated rain and thunderstorms are possible over Goa, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Dense fog is expected at isolated places over Punjab.
