According to Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over southeast Rajasthan. A trough is extending from the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh to south Konkan and Goa across the cyclonic circulation over the south east Rajasthan.

An anti-cyclone is over South Odisha. A cyclonic circulation is persisting over eastern parts of Bangladesh.

During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain may occur over North Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, North Odisha, parts of Bihar and West Bengal.

Very dense fog is expected to persist over East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Moderate to dense fog will be over West Uttar Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and parts of Tripura.

Cold wave conditions are expected to persist for another 24 to 48 hours over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, parts of Uttarakhand, Saurashtra & Kutch, and Madhya Pradesh.

Ground frost may occur for another 24 hours over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and North Rajasthan.

Several parts of the Indo-Gangetic Plains region recorded dense to very dense fog on Saturday morning resulting in very low to zero visibility. Siliguri, for example, recorded zero visibility; Bareilly and Lucknow recorded less than 25 m visibility each; Amritsar, Baharaich, Purnea and Gaya recorded less than 50 m each and Jhansi 200 m at 5.30 am, according to India Meteorological Department.

Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions existed at many places over Punjab, at a few places over Haryana and east Rajasthan and at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and west Rajasthan.

The lowest minimum temperature over plains of northwest India was -0.3°C recorded at Bathinda on Friday.

Cold, dry north westerly winds, which are blowing over the northern plain and adjoining parts of central India, are likely to prevail for the next 2-3 days. Under their influence, cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh during the next 3 days and a decrease in spatial distribution and intensity thereafter, Hindustan Times reported.

Cold wave conditions are also likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh, during the next 2 days. Cold wave conditions are likely to stay over Himachal Pradesh during the next 24 hours and over Bihar during Jan 31 to Feb 3.

Ground frost is likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan during the next 2 days.

Dense to very dense fog is expected in many pockets over Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi during the next 24 hours; over Uttar Pradesh during the next 2 days and over Bihar during the next 3 days. Cold day to severe cold day conditions are likely in pockets over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar during the next 5 days and over Madhya Pradesh during the next 2 days.

5-Day Nationwide Weather Forecast

According to Weather.com, a cyclonic circulation is set to bring scattered snow/rain accompanied by thunderstorms over Arunachal Pradesh and adjoining areas on Saturday, before the system moves eastward and gets subdued from early Sunday onwards.

A fresh western disturbance is also likely to affect North India from Sunday night, thereby causing snowfall activity in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

Cold Northerly flows are expected to trigger cold wave conditions over much of North, Central India as well some places of Eastern India. These trends will persist over Eastern India for a while, but gradually ease in other regions from Sunday onwards.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are on the cards for isolated/some/many pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh during the next two days, and they will decrease in spatial distribution and intensity thereafter. Cold wave conditions are also expected in isolated pockets of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh during the next 24 hours, and over Bihar between Jan 31 and Feb 3.

Moreover, cold day to severe cold day conditions have been predicted in isolated/some/many pockets of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar during the next five days, and Madhya Pradesh during the next 24 hours. Ground frost conditions are also possible in some plane areas of North India on Saturday morning.

Further, moderate to dense fog during morning periods have also been forecast at isolated places of Gangetic plains and the semi-arid region for the next couple of days. Very dense fog is especially likely to appear in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

Regional Forecast

Isolated snow is likely over Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh. Isolated rain is possible over Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Cold wave conditions are in the forecast for isolated pockets across Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Chandigarh.

Dense fog in morning hours has been predicted in isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Chandigarh.
