This is one in the series of activities during the visit of Chinese General Secretary and President Xi Jinping to Vietnam, contributing to further promoting people-to-people exchange, such as exchanges between scholars, intellectuals, young people... to enhance understanding and friendship between the people of the two countries, creating a solid foundation for bilateral relations to develop in the coming time.

The meeting was organized by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations in coordination with the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.

Speaking at the meeting, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong expressed his joy with General Secretary and President Xi Jinping to meet again the friends and comrades of China and Vietnam who have made great contributions to Vietnam - China friendship. He was moved to meet Chinese scholars, intellectuals, officials and relatives of Chinese comrades who helped Vietnam during the years of struggle for national independence.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong also expressed full confidence when meeting young people of the two countries with the intention of following in the footsteps of previous generations, bringing vitality and a bright future to Vietnam - China relations.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized that Vietnam-China friendship has many good traditions. The close and intimate relationship between the people of the two countries is beautifully described in the song Vietnam - China by musician Do Nhuan as "By the river bathing in the same stream, I look there, you look here/ Early in the morning we hear the rooster crowing together." The two peoples have given each other a lot of valuable support and assistance in the past struggle for national independence and the cause of building socialism today.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong shared with the intellectuals and young generations of the two countries about the achievements of this visit, emphasizing that the two Parties and countries have agreed to continue to deepen and enhance the level of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, building the Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future with strategic significance, for the happiness of the two peoples, for the cause of peace and progress of humanity.

One of the most basic and important directions of cooperation in the Vietnam-China relationship is to consolidate a stronger social foundation. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed the deep and passionate aspirations of Vietnam for many generations. The two peoples' commitment to friendship, peace, cooperation, and development is a source of great strength and a solid basis for faith in the bright future of relations between the two countries.

The Vietnamese General Secretary welcomed and appreciated the sentiments and important contributions of the two countries' people, in which scholars and young people played a core role. He expressed his belief and hope that the scholars and young people of the two countries will continue to actively contribute to common efforts to develop strong, stable, long-term and effective Vietnam-China relations, in accordance with the spirit of the saying by President Ho Chi Minh which was highly welcomed by Chairman Mao Zedong, that "the close sentiment between Vietnam and China, being comrades and brothers".

He recalled the unforgettable memories of traditional friendship with common goals, mutual support, and bringing practical benefits to the people.

Emphasizing that the Vietnam-China friendship has its foundation in the people and that young generation is the future, General Secretary, President Xi Jinping affirmed that the mechanisms for exchange and cooperation between the people of both sides, including cultural exchanges and exchanges between bordering localities of the two sides, will contribute to strengthening the relationship between the two countries, sharing a future in a volatile world, and contributing more to the progress of humanity.

General Secretary, President Xi Jinping expressed his hope that young people will be the inheritors of the China-Vietnam friendship, actively contributing to strengthening cooperation beneficial to the development of the two countries. He emphasized that scholars and the young generation are pioneers on the path of friendship between the two countries, pioneers for the progress of humanity, and contribute to the stable, long-term development of an open, inclusive, harmonious, prosperous, and developed Asia-Pacific region.

The meeting took place in a friendly, warm atmosphere with the participation of nearly 400 intellectuals and young people from the two countries. Participants shared profound memories and close feelings between the two peoples. They expressed their sincere thanks for the close attention and direction of the two Parties, the two countries and the two General Secretaries so that the people of the two countries could better understand each other. At the same time, they affirmed to effectively contribute to implementing the common awareness of senior leaders of the two Parties and States on building a "friendship foundation", making practical contributions to cultivating Vietnam – China friendship.
