Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 5 Conducts Volunteer Mission in South Sudan

After being deployed to the receiving area to receive the handover from the Level 2 War Hospital No. 4, the Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 of Vietnam carried out a volunteer mission to give gifts to children and local people in the protected area of Rubkona Nature Reserve in Bentiu (South Sudan).

During this trip, in addition to visiting and giving gifts to the local government, the tribal chief in Rubkona, Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 handed over gifts to 30 needy households here. Many children were present to receive cute little balloon animals from Vietnamese 'green beret' soldiers dressing up as balloon-making clowns.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ha Ngoc, director of the field hospital shared, “In a difficult place like Bentiu, it is impossible to get toys with children. We want to bring joy to disadvantaged children in this place through small but meaningful actions. The children showed great interest and joy because this is the first time they have been given such a gift.”

The director of Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 affirmed that following the previous teams, the unit hopes that along with professional health care work in the area, joint activities for the community will contribute to introducing a good image of the country and people of Vietnam, spreading the nice image of the 'green beret soldiers'.

Military and civilian operations (CIMIC) of the Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 received positive support and evaluation from the authorities of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan and international colleagues.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ha Ngoc, they expressed their desire to cooperate and accompany the Vietnamese unit in meaningful activities like this.

Through the coordination of CIMIC activities, the image of the United Nations green beret soldier in the area has become familiar and close to the local people. The activity is even more meaningful when it is carried out in time for World Humanitarian Day (August 19).

In relation news, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on August 16 handed over the State President’s decision to deploy three more police officers to the United Nations peacekeeping mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), VNA reported.

Maj. Gen. Dao Xuan Lan, Chief of the MPS’s standing office for UN peacekeeping operations, reported that in 2022, the MPS sent four officers to engage in UN peacekeeping operations, including one to the UN headquarters and three to UNMISS.

All the four have excellently fulfilled their duties; gradually affirmed the capacity, mettle, and professionalism of the People’s Public Security officers; and helped popularise images of Vietnam to the UN and international friends, he noted.

On August 12, the State President signed a decision to deploy three more officers to UNMISS, raising the number of those joining UN peacekeeping operations to seven.

Aside from individuals, the standing office will soon propose the deployment of units to peacekeeping operations, Lan added.

So far, the country has sent 533 officers and professional soldiers to UN peacekeeping operations, and they have properly fulfilled their tasks.
