Operation Smile performs smile surgery for nearly 100 children with cleft lip and palate

This occasion marks 35 years of cooperation between the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital and Operation Smile. Also, it strengthens the cohesion between the hospital and the global humanitarian organization in the journey to bring smiles and new hope to cleft lip and palate patients.
On Nov 19, Vietnam - Cu Ba Friendship Hospital, Hanoi coordinated with Operation Smile to implement a cleft lip and palate surgery program for nearly 100 children. The program will be carried out until Nov 22. |
Previously, on November 18, the hospital screened nearly 130 patients with cleft lip and palate. There are nearly 100 patients who are eligible for surgery. Many of them are from the mountainous provinces in Northern and Central Vietnam, and remote areas where ethnic minorities live in difficult circumstances.
Cleft lip surgery patients must be 6 months old and weigh at least 8 kg. For patients with cleft palate surgery, they must be 18 months old and weigh at least 12kg. The program does not accept surgery for children with malnutrition, asthma, high fever, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and some other medical diseases to ensure health safety for children.
All eligible patients will be assigned surgery and care in accordance with Vietnam's medical standards and global standards of care. Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital also supports part of the funding for cleft lil-palate patients who need high-tech and costly treatment.
There are nearly 100 doctors, nurses, medical staff of the hospital, and volunteers of Operation Smile organization participating in this humanitarian program.
