In his report at the conference, Nguyen Trung Kien, chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, stated that over the past five years, Project 1797 has effectively leveraged the valuable resources of the overseas Vietnamese community to promote exports, cultural outreach, and enhance Vietnam’s economic standing.
Notably, overseas Vietnamese businesses have, for the first time, exported fresh lychee from Bac Giang to the Northwestern European market, shipped Cat Chu mangoes from Dong Thap and bananas to the EU by both air and sea, distributing them in countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and the Czech Republic. Remarkably, these businesses also successfully exported whole fresh durians to the EU, gaining market share and competing directly with major exporters like Thailand and Malaysia.
In Europe, trade promotion fairs organized by the Vietnamese diaspora have played a key role in helping Vietnamese products meet stringent quality and food safety standards, building trust among local consumers. In addition to strengthening traditionally exported items, overseas Vietnamese enterprises have also actively introduced new agricultural products and spices to foreign markets.
In New Zealand, Vietnamese agricultural products are increasingly imported and widely distributed by the local Vietnamese community, gradually gaining a foothold in the mainstream market. Vietnamese goods are not only serving the Vietnamese diaspora but are also becoming more popular among local consumers.
The conference also received numerous recommendations and proposals aimed at further supporting the overseas Vietnamese community in contributing to the socio-economic development of both the nation and localities. Delegates emphasized the need to strengthen business networking and trade promotion between domestic enterprises and overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs, creating better conditions for Vietnamese products to access global markets.

According to Nguyen Tan Tuan, deputy secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and chairman of the People’s Committee of Khanh Hoa Province, the implementation of the project over the past five years has boosted the export and distribution of key local products—including bird’s nest, agarwood, seafood, coffee, textiles, and agricultural goods—to demanding markets like the EU and Japan. These products are now present in reputable distribution systems in multiple countries.
Tuan expressed hope that through this event, the Vietnamese diaspora will continue to support the promotion of local products, foster trade connections, and provide market insights. The province also hopes that overseas Vietnamese will serve as a bridge to help key products from Khanh Hoa, the South Central region, and Vietnam as a whole reach global markets, while also attracting investment into major local development projects in the near future.
In her concluding remarks, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang acknowledged the heartfelt contributions of delegates. She emphasized that their insights will serve as an important foundation for relevant agencies to study and develop policies and regulations that further facilitate overseas Vietnamese engagement in national development. She also expressed confidence that the conference would mark an important step forward in enhancing cooperation between the diaspora and domestic localities and businesses, paving the way for concrete projects, investment opportunities, and broader international access for Vietnamese products in the future.
