On May 30, the Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front held a meeting with more than 40 overseas Vietnamese visiting Truong Sa (Spratly) and DK1 Rig from May 17 to May 25.

The special meeting took place in an intimate, open atmosphere.

First time wearing a red shirt with yellow star

Formerly an anti-communist, this is the first time Nguyen Trong Duc, an overseas Vietnamese in a red shirt with yellow star: “Wearing a red shirt with yellow star, standing on my mother's land, I feel happy. There are lines that can only be crossed when looking at the truth. That is what I overcame. 40 overseas Vietnamese from different lands eat together and sleep together on the same boat. I hope people will be messengers to spread the message forever Truong Sa."

At the end of this trip, Duc plans to make a short film titled "The Truong Sa Storyteller". He wants to bring his own films to tell other overseas Vietnamese, especially overseas Vietnamese in the US his experiences about Vietnam and Truong Sa (Spratly).

This visit in 2022 is the first after 2 years of the Covid-19 pandemic. 2022 is also the 10th anniversary of the program of overseas Vietnamese visiting Truong Sa.

“When I came to Truong Sa (Spratly), I was surprised that there were only 2 teachers who took over 12 children from grade 1 to grade 5. As a teacher, I couldn't explain it. Truong Sa is such a place, a place full of life.

One of the first things I want to do when I return to the Netherlands is to establish Truong Sa club. I want to gather Vietnamese expatriates in the Netherlands, join hands to support Truong Sa.

I want to bring the technology to filter salt water into fresh water, develop solar energy, wind energy to Truong Sa. This will solve many difficulties for officials, soldiers and people on the island. I can no longer talk about patriotism in general, but must show it with concrete actions.”

Tran Anh Tuan said: “I have lived for 30 years in Europe, traveled many places, but this is the most meaningful trip in my life. Arriving in Truong Sa, I met officials and soldiers who were young. Perhaps, they are only the same age as our children and grandchildren, but willing to sacrifice to protect the sovereignty of the country. This is also the first time I have seen a stele claiming sovereignty. The stele is built of the blood and tears of many generations.”

Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam, vice chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the trip was an affirmation: Together with more than 90 million people in the country, overseas Vietnamese are a solid rear for officials, soldiers and people on Truong Sa island district.

“The visit to Truong Sa by overseas Vietnamese was special: a trip connecting the army with the people, the mainland and islands, the Vietnamese community at home and abroad. The trip has contributed to building up the great national unity bloc,” said Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam.

Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam expects that, after this trip, each person is a messenger to spread the spirit of love for Truong Sa to people around the world, joining hands to establish Truong Sa clubs.

This is a meaningful activity, affirming Vietnam's sovereignty over Truong Sa (Spratly). This is also an opportunity for overseas Vietnamese from all over the world to meet, exchange with the army and people on the island, contributing to strengthening the bloc of great national unity.
