PeaceTrees Vietnam Builds 2 Kindergarten Classrooms in Quang Tri

PeaceTrees Vietnam - a US-based humanitarian organization, just held a groundbreak ceremony for two classrooms in Quang Tri.

The People's Committee of Huong Hoa district coordinated with PeaceTrees Vietnam to organize the groundbreaking of two classrooms and auxiliary construction works adjacent to the existing Thanh Commune Central Kindergarten in A Ho village, Thanh commune of Quang Tri province.

The project is built with a scale of 2 classrooms, 2 storage rooms, and 2 closed bathrooms with a construction area of 235 m2 and a corridor, reception hall, embankment combined with a fence, electricity, and water system with a total cost of VND 1.5 billion (USD 61.700). Of which, non-refundable aid capital is VND 1 billion (USD 41.100), and counterpart capital is VND 500 million (USD 20.500) from Huong Hoa district People's Committee.

It is expected that after seven months of construction, the project will be completed and put into use.

Country Director of Peace Trees Vietnam Phan Thi Hong Ha said along with livelihood support, providing knowledge about education and mine prevention, and awarding scholarships and gifts to student victims and children of landmine victims, PeaceTrees Vietnam has supported the construction of classrooms at schools. To date, Huong Hoa district has supported the construction of more than 17 schools with a total cost of over 8 billion VND (USD 329.100).

Vice Principal of Thanh Duong Commune Kindergarten Thi Nhu Uyen shared that the whole commune has 331 preschool students who are children of the Van Kieu ethnic group studying at 6 schools of A Ho, Ba Vieng, Ta Nua, Thanh 1, Thanh O, Thanh Moi, which will contribute to improving the quality of teaching and learning of the school.

Recently, on September 22, PeaceTrees Vietnam was honored to receive a Certificate of Appreciation from the Chairman of the Quang Tri People's Committee for its contributions to foreign affairs and international cooperation during the period 1993-2023.

Established in 1995, right after Vietnam and the United States normalized diplomatic relations, PeaceTrees Vietnam was the first US non-governmental organization permitted to operate in Vietnam in the field of addressing the legacy of war.

Since then, PeaceTrees Vietnam has helped address post-war consequences through demining and mine risk education, victim assistance, community building projects, and citizen diplomacy in partnership with the people of Quang Tri.
