On September 20, the Department of Information and Communications of Quang Tri province hosted the opening ceremony of "Phieu" cafe about President Fidel Castro and Latin America culture.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation, Chairman of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association of Quang Tri Province Hoang Duc Thang stressed that this is a meaningful and practical tribute to commemorate the 50th anniversary of President Fidel Castro's visit to the liberated region of South Vietnam in Quang Tri province.

50 years ago, during his visit to Vietnam from September 12 - 17, 1973, Cuban leader Fidel Castro visited Quang Binh province and the southern liberated region of Quang Tri province. This was the first and only visit of a foreign head of state to the liberated area while the battlefield in South Vietnam was still fierce, and was a great encouragement to our army and people.

The visit has become a historical milestone of the Vietnam-Cuba brotherly relationship, said the Chairman of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association of Quang Tri Province. Since then, the special traditional relationship between Vietnam and Cuba continues to be strengthened in all fields, affirming the solidarity and strong support and assistance of the Government and People of Cuba for Vietnam in both wartime and present time.

The cafe has 70 books with a wide range of subjects like Fidel Castro's life and careers , the special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba, and the history and culture of Cuba and Latin America. This collection drew the attention of a large number of people and readers who wanted to better understand about the great Cuban leader.

The opening of "Phieu" cafe is among many activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Cuban Leader Fidel Castro's visit to the liberated region of South Vietnam in Quang Tri. The anniversary ceremony will be held on September 26 at the Provincial Cultural and Cinema Center. Other activities include: Photos and documents display about Cuban Leader Fidel Castro and his visit to Quang Tri in 1973, offering flowers and planting souvenir trees at Fidel Park in Dong Ha City. There will also be an award ceremony for the "Vietnamese - Cuban children show solidarity" art contest.
