International friends rally to support Vietnam.

President Ho Chi Minh's thought on the strength of the people, international solidarity, the role of people-to-people diplomacy and people's war has been developed into our Party's line.

It was applied flexibly and creatively in the country's revolutionary practice, becoming a decisive factor in the victory of our people's just struggle at the Paris Conference.

The strong formation and development of solidarity between people in the world with the Vietnamese people in the resistance war against the US is the result of the struggle on the people's foreign affairs front after our country gained independence.

It was demonstrated with the establishment of the first bilateral and multilateral friendship organizations in 1945 (Vietnam-US Society) and throughout the 1950s and 1960s.

From 1947-1948, under President Ho Chi Minh's direction, our cadres were sent abroad to propagate the resistance war against the French colonialists, to enlist the support of the people, and access to the peace and solidarity movement of the world revolution.

In 1950, Vietnam's World Peace Protection Committee was established, participating in the founding of the World Peace Council. The Council associates the patriotic struggle of our people with the movement for peace, national independence, democracy, and progress in the world.

People-to-people diplomacy has found similarities and possibilities to gather forces, and form a united front in support of Vietnam, with the top priority being to make people understand Vietnam and our people's just struggle, using that as a foundation to attract international support.

Since 1960, with the establishment of the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam, a new offensive has been formed with the core of people's diplomacy, implementing the Party's policy on international coordination and mobilization.

It elevated the position of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, enlisting international recognition and support for the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam.

After signing the Agreement to end the war and restore peace in Vietnam, the delegation of our government at the Paris Conference held a reception to thank the French for their support.

Vietnam's message in the public communication channels is clear and consistent. It is to expose the nature of America's war of aggression, and affirm the will and determination to fight and sacrifice of the South and the North for independence, freedom and national reunification.

During the Paris Conference, our negotiating team paid special attention to the people-to-people channel. They have held thousands of press conferences, given interviews to inform the public, clarify our righteous stance and refute misinformation.

Our people-to-people diplomacy has yielded important results. Movements and organizations supporting Vietnam were born in many countries and spread all over the world.

Many international courts meeting in Sweden, Japan, Denmark, France, Germany, and the Bertrand Russel Court tried the US war crimes in Vietnam, strongly condemned the war of aggression and demanded that the US end the war.

With diverse activities attracting millions of participants, the solidarity and support movement for Vietnam has created a great strength, influencing the policies of many governments in the world.

People-to-people diplomacy has focused on mobilizing the Americans. We also approached American peace and democracy activists to inform about the situation in Vietnam.

In 1968, the historic meeting between the Vietnamese and American people was held in Bratislava (Czechoslovakia). It marked the large-scale and direct coordination between the anti-war movement in the US and the Vietnamese people's struggle for independence, freedom, peace and justice.

The movement against the war of aggression in Vietnam was formed and developed right in the United States, attracting millions of Americans of all backgrounds to participate.

Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, president of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations.

Witnessing the crimes of the US military and the heroic struggle of our people, American friends wrote articles and spoke at forums in the US and the world, demanding the US end the war.

With the spirit of goodwill, to support and promote the role of the anti-war movement in the US, we have returned captured American pilots to the representatives of the movement.

The heroic resistance war and our victory, the humanity of the Government and people of Vietnam towards the enemies have moved hearts and awakened many people, including the Americans.

Many anti-war demonstrations broke out on a large scale with the participation of millions of people, shaking the capital Washington and many major US cities. People-to-people diplomacy has contributed to "bringing the Vietnam War into the heart of America".

The support of international friends has put great pressure on the US government. It is also a source of strength to assist the Paris Peace Accords negotiation team, for our people to fight to the final victory.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Paris Peace Accords, we appreciate the gratitude of international friends everywhere in the world.

They have supported the Vietnamese people in the struggle for independence and freedom, some of them have burned themselves to protest the senseless war of the US.

People-to-people diplomacy in the anti-American resistance war, especially during the negotiation phase at the Paris Conference, has left us with valuable experiences until today.

In the context of a complicated and unpredictable world situation, facing many challenges, people-to-people diplomacy, as a pillar of Vietnam's comprehensive and modern diplomacy, needs to take advantage of its strengths.

It needs to do well the pioneering role of foreign affairs in creating and maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, mobilizing external resources for national construction and development.

It helps to enhance the prestige and position of Vietnam, contributes to the progressive people's movement in the world for peace, democracy, social progress and sustainable development.
