This year’s severe flooding has wreaked havoc on five central provinces in Vietnam, claimed 130 lives, and left 18 others missing so far.

Meanwhile, over 37,500 houses, 1,325 ha of rice and 12,479 ha of crops were destroyed. Over 20km of embankment, 116km of canals, 43km of river and sea banks, more than 163km of national roads and nearly 162 km of local roads were eroded and damaged.

Residents of central provinces such as Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien-Hue are fighting back against the difficulties brought about by the recent historic flooding by striving to return to normal life through support provided by local administrations and soldiers.

Understanding the difficulties of people affected by the disaster, Plan's flood relief van in Quang Tri started its journey to Huc and Huong Hiep communes on October 24.

The van carried 500 relief packages to two communes, with a total of VND 192 million (over USD 8,200) including essentials such as dried fish, cooking oil, peanuts, fresh milk, instant porridge, soap, detergent, sanitary napkin, etc.

These packages were handed out to the people in the communes, priority is given to households in difficult circumstances such as households with people injured by floods, houses swept away, households with disabled people, single women, households with sponsored children.

Plan International will support the people in Central region of Vietnam to recover from this disaster and provide help for their long term recovery.

This week, the Plan's relief van will continue its journey to help people recover from floods.
