On November 21, at the Presidential Palace, President Vo Van Thuong expressed his gratitude for the great support of the International Federation of Red Cross-Red Crescent Societies, International Committee of the Red Cross, Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies of countries and international organizations.

They effectively cooperated and supported Vietnam through the Vietnam Red Cross in recent years, especially when there are natural disasters, catastrophes, and epidemics.

Speaking at the meeting, international delegates expressed their sincere feelings and honor to come to Vietnam, receiving a warm welcome and strong support from the Vietnam Red Cross as host of the 11th Conference.

The Vietnam Red Cross Society operates strongly and dynamically, making great contributions to the humanitarian activities of the International Red Cross movement.

The 11th Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Vietnam has one of the important goals of connecting Red Cross Societies of countries in response to climate change and humanitarian activities.

Therefore, many delegates wish to continue to coordinate closely with the Vietnam Red Cross to develop and expand international humanitarian activities.

The President said the humanitarian fire started by Henry Dunant 160 years ago lit up the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, increasingly affirming the global nature, sustainability of love, and responsibility for humanity.

He emphasized that Vietnam is honored to be a member of the global movement with 190 participating countries.

For many years, Vietnam has always made efforts in friendship and charity, working with international organizations, partners, and friends to alleviate human suffering and assist and protect vulnerable people.

The President said that the Vietnamese people faced many fierce wars, natural disasters, and constant epidemics, and suffered a lot of pain and loss.

The lesson of strength to overcome adversity comes from good qualities forged in hardship, noble values, and correct philosophy. Compassion and love for people are a good foundation and philosophy for action.

According to President Vo Van Thuong, the Government of Vietnam always pays attention to the humanitarian activities of its country and internationally.

Vietnam identifies humanitarian work as a regular task of the entire political system, with people as the center, associated with the task of ensuring social security and the reality of each locality and unit.

He affirmed that Vietnam is consistent in its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, and multilateralization.

Vietnam is a friend, a trusted partner, and a responsible member of the international community for peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the world.

The President said that Vietnam is increasingly participating in humanitarian activities of the United Nations and the global humanitarian movement, contributing to the stability and sustainable development of the region and the world.

President Vo Van Thuong also said that climate change is leading to an increase in extreme weather phenomena around the world.

Asia-Pacific, the region that is considered the most dynamically developing and can be the driving force of global development, is facing a big challenge. This is one of the areas most severely affected by climate change, suffering the most natural disasters.

As one of the countries heavily affected by climate change, Vietnam considers climate change response a priority in national development policies and strongly commits to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, reducing greenhouse emissions, protecting forests, and converting energy.

President Vo Van Thuong affirmed that Vietnam is ready to contribute to the common efforts of the international community in responding to climate change, protecting the environment, participating in United Nations peacekeeping operations, and international humanitarian relief.

He said that humanitarian activities with love, sympathy, international friendship, and solidarity will bring positive values, spread kindness, and mobilize more resources to help vulnerable people in society.

Referring to the theme of the 11th Asia-Pacific Regional Conference "Asia-Pacific: Preparing for disasters," the President affirmed that this event is a good opportunity for people to exchange experiences, and enhance capacity to jointly build humanitarian networks for the region and the world.
