Germany-Vietnam Friendship Association Supports Scholarships for Quang Tri's Students

On September 10, Ha Sy Dong, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri People's Committee, presided over a meeting with various departments and localities to deliberate on the projects that will be proposed to the People's Council for policy approval.

The project titled "Improvement of Solid Waste Collection and Treatment Capacity to Protect the Environment and Adapt to Climate Change in Quang Tri Province's Northern Region" is set to be carried out from 2024 to 2026 with funding from the Italian Government. It encompasses five primary and supplementary components, with a total investment of 45 billion VND. Out of this, over 36.5 billion VND is allocated as non-refundable ODA aid, while the remaining amount constitutes the counterpart capital.

The project aims to fully develop a solid waste collection, sorting, and treatment system in the northern area of Quang Tri Province. It seeks to ensure that the reuse and recycling rate of domestic solid waste exceeds 65%, and the rate of solid waste repurposed for energy recovery or fertilizer production surpasses 85%.

The other project, set to be implemented in the three communes of Cam Chinh, Cam Nghia, and Cam Tuyen (Cam Lo district) from 2024 to 2026, is also financed by the Italian Government. The project encompasses three primary components with a total investment exceeding 37.2 billion VND. Nearly 30 billion VND of this is non-refundable ODA aid, with the remainder being counterpart funds.

The project aims to guarantee a domestic water supply for all rural households, fulfilling the clean water requirements for the development of modern new rural areas. The standard for water supply is set at 80 to 100 liters per person per day, ensuring the quality meets the standards for the region in three communes: Cam Chinh, Cam Nghia, and Cam Tuyen, benefiting 4,480 households and 17,131 individuals.

The project's goal is to alter the local population's reliance on wells, decrease and curb their unregulated use of groundwater, transition to a controlled and tightly regulated extraction of groundwater within the project's vicinity, and utilize treated, centralized water to guarantee safety and safeguard public health.

At the meeting's conclusion, Standing Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri People's Committee, Ha Sy Dong, highlighted the importance and urgency of the proposed projects for environmental protection, climate change adaptation, and securing clean water supplies for the community.
