Raising funds to help poor women and children in Egypt
On November 14th, the Vietnamese Embassy and the overseas Vietnamese community in Egypt actively participated in a food and handicraft bazaar, which was held by the Asian Diplomats' Spouses Association (ADSA) in Cairo to raise funds to help the poor in Egypt, especially women and children.
The event was attended by representatives from 21 countries including Bangladesh, Brunei, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Palestine, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Turkey, Australia and New Zealand, 13 non-governmental organizations (NGO) in Egypt and representatives of the European Union.
At the bazaar, Vietnam’s traditional dishes such as fried spring rolls and coffee as well as traditional craft products such as lacquer products, pictures, conical hats, bamboo dragonflies and souvenirs impressed international friends.
Ms. Patcharie Chantavarin, spouse of Thai Ambassador and Head of the ADSA, said this year's event attracted a larger number of participating countries than last year and added that the proceeds from the bazaar and the contributions of each participating country will be presented to charitable organizations in Cairo, to assist the poor in Egypt, especially women and children.
Through the event, Vietnam also introduced well-known tourist destinations by a five-minute video clip to international friends./.
